Student Worker - Library Aide

General Job BriefThe Student Library Aide assists the Head Librarian in library operations including but not limited to opening and closing the library; serving library users; maintaining a clean, orderly study environment; helping with basic computer issues; and performing other library tasks.This role also requires a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth, and the ability to advance that mission and vision through the performance of its duties, including person-to-person mentorship and discipleship.Typical DutiesCustomer ServiceHelp library users find and retrieve information (such as books from the shelves)Explain and market the library's resources and services to library usersTroublesoot basic computer, printer, and copy machine issues and help people with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Gmail, and related productivity applicationsLibrary OperationsOpen and close the libraryMonitor library usageEnforce library policiesClean and straighten up the libraryCheck resources in and out using the library's online catalogShelve books and other library resources and ensure that they are in proper orderPerform other library tasks as assignedOther Duties and ResponsibilitiesCompleting other duties and tasks with utmost integrity and professionalism, as directed, and not necessarily mentioned in this description, may be asked on a volunteer basis.Commitment to the University's faith statement, mission, and purposes; and an active Christian faith.Comfort and familiarity with the practice of praying with and for others, including students, faculty, and fellow University staff.The ability to meaningfully support and encourage students, faculty, and staff from a biblical worldview perspective, using relevant and applicable references from the Old and New Testaments and orthodox Christian writings.Demonstrated alignment with and enthusiastic support for the Christian Mission and Core Commitments of the University, including signing the University's Statement of Faith and Core Commitments annually.Education and ExperienceKnowledge* Basic to intermediate knowledge of computers, printers, and copy machines, especially Windows, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Gmail, and related productivity applicationsEducation and ExperienceMust be a full-time ACU student in good academic, financial, and conduct standingExperience working in libraries, retail, or tutoring preferredMust complete FAFSAAbility and SkillsCustomer service skills, helping diverse library users (especially college students)Excellent written and verbal communication skillsTroubleshooting computer, printer, and copy machine issuesCareful attention to detailFollowing written and verbal instructions, policies, and proceduresAlphabetizing and putting things in numerical orderAbility to sit, stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 25 lbs.Handling cleaning supplies and removing dust, dirt, and trashPerforming repetitive, somewhat tedious tasks often involving hand and wrist movementsFair Labor Standards ActThis position is part-time, nonexempt for overtime pay provisions as provided by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and any applicable state laws.
