Structural Steel & Rail Fabrication Technician
Location: Richmond, VASchedule: Day Shift | Monday-Friday | 5:00 AM - 3:00 PMOvertime and occasional Saturday work may be required.Pay Rate: Starting at $22.00/hourPosition SummaryCompensation may increase based on experience and welding/fabrication background.We are seeking an experienced fabrication professional to support the production and assembly of custom metal structures and components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role involves interpreting fabrication drawings, operating shop equipment, and producing high-quality steel assemblies such as handrails, stair systems, ladders, and related architectural metal products.The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable managing multiple fabrication priorities throughout the workday.Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesFabricate and assemble custom metal products including stairs, railing systems, ladders, and miscellaneous steel componentsInterpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, work orders, and project specifications accuratelyPerform layout, measuring, cutting, fitting, welding, grinding, and finishing tasks according to production requirementsOperate fabrication machinery and tools such as press brakes, saws, shears, and welding equipment while following safety proceduresComplete work assignments while maintaining production schedules and quality expectationsCollaborate with production leads, engineers, and shop personnel to ensure projects are completed efficientlyConduct quality checks on completed assemblies before final production stagesTroubleshoot fabrication issues and contribute practical solutions when neededMaintain a clean and organized work area at all timesAdapt to changing workloads, rush projects, and shifting production priorities as requiredQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferredPrevious experience in steel fabrication, miscellaneous metals, or custom railing production requiredFCAW welding experience required; certifications are beneficial but not mandatoryAbility to read and understand shop drawings and technical blueprintsStrong attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanshipAbility to manage time effectively in a production-driven settingCapable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and performing physical shop work throughout the shiftTeam-oriented mindset with the ability to support multiple active jobs simultaneouslyFlexibility to assist across different fabrication projects based on operational needsWork EnvironmentIndoor manufacturing/shop settingExposure to welding smoke, dust, paint fumes, moving equipment, loud noise, and industrial hazardsPPE is required, including safety glasses, hearing protection, protective footwear, and proper shop clothingLong pants must be worn on the production floor at all timesEarly morning start times and overtime availability are expected when production demands increaseWe may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
