Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Senior Layout Technician / Engineer is responsible for executing and leading complex dimensional inspections on turbine components. This role requires strong expertise in layout strategy, metrology principles, data interpretation, and problem-solving within tight-tolerance environments.The position operates with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability for accuracy, quality, and timely deliverables. Responsibilities also include customer interaction, technical troubleshooting, and support for process improvement and automation initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform advanced dimensional inspections on turbine castings, including airfoils, cores, and internal passagesDevelop and execute layout strategies in accordance with OEM specifications (e.g., Pratt & Whitney, GE)Utilize structured light / blue light scanning systems (ATOS or similar) and Zeiss Inspect (GOM Inspect) softwareInterpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements to validate dimensional complianceAnalyze and report inspection results per ISO 9001, ISO 17025, AS9100, and NADCAP standardsGenerate and review inspection reports including FAI, qualification layouts, and multi-piece studiesApply metrology principles such as gage R&R, measurement uncertainty, and traceability standardsInterface with customers and suppliers to clarify requirements and support root cause analysisTroubleshoot dimensional nonconformances and provide technical recommendationsSupport continuous improvement initiatives related to inspection efficiency and workflow optimizationMentor junior technicians and support training effortsMaintain high standards of accuracy, consistency, and documentationRequired Qualifications3–10+ years of dimensional inspection experience, preferably in aerospace or turbine casting environmentsStrong proficiency with Zeiss Inspect (GOM Inspect)Experience with structured light / optical scanning systems (ATOS or similar)Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5 or equivalent)Ability to interpret engineering drawings and OEM specificationsWorking knowledge of ISO9001, ISO17025, AS9100, and NADCAP standardsUnderstanding of gage R&R, measurement uncertainty, and statistical analysis methodsAbility to work independently on complex inspection tasks with minimal supervisionStrong analytical skills and attention to detailU.S. person status required (per ITAR regulations)Preferred QualificationsExperience with turbine airfoil or investment casting inspectionFamiliarity with Pratt & Whitney or GE specificationsExperience with multi-piece studies and statistical reportingScripting or automation experience (Python, GOM scripting, or similar)Experience improving inspection workflows or developing internal processesCompensation & BenefitsSalary range: $66,000 – $86,000 depending on experiencePerformance-based bonus opportunities and advancement potentialCompetitive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time offWhy This Role MattersThis position supports the dimensional integrity of highly engineered turbine components and plays a critical role in customer qualification efforts, process validation, and production readiness.
