Electrical Design Lead

POSITION OVERVIEWResponsible for leading the electrical design function on EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, ensuring designs are technically sound, constructible, code-compliant, and aligned with project schedule and budget. This role serves as the design team lead for electrical systems from concept through construction and commissioning, working closely with construction, procurement, project management, and external stakeholders.The Electrical Design Lead provides hands-on engineering support, mentors the designers, resolves field issues, and drives design decisions that optimize safety, quality, and constructability.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESLead electrical design efforts for EPC projects, including power distribution, grounding, protection, lighting, controls, and auxiliary systems.Develop and review single-line diagrams, schematics, layout drawings, cable schedules, load calculations, and equipment specifications.Ensure electrical designs comply with NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, IEEE, NESC, local AHJ requirements, and client standards.Establish and enforce electrical design standards, procedures, and best practices across projects.Coordinate electrical design activities with civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation, and construction teams.Support constructability reviews, value engineering, and design optimization.Provide technical support during procurement, including vendor document reviews and equipment evaluations.Respond to RFIs, field changes, and non-conformance issues, providing timely engineering solutions.Serve as the primary electrical design point of contact during construction.Support energization planning, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.Participate in site walks, inspections, and commission readiness reviews as required.Interface with clients, utilities, AHJs, and third-party engineers.Participate in technical meetings, design reviews, and progress updates.Clearly communicate risks, design changes, and technical decisions.LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIESAssign and prioritize tasks based on team capabilities and project requirements.Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to team members.Monitor individual and team performance, offering constructive feedback. Ensure feedback is being shared with managementEnsure adherence to quality standards and project timelines.Foster a collaborative and positive team environment.Serve as the primary point of contact for team-related issues.Communicate essential information to employees and managementReview and approve time daily and timecards weekly or by deadlines for accuracyQUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Bachelor’s degree in drafting or engineering preferred but not required8–12+ years of electrical engineering and/or design experience, with significant EPC project involvement.Demonstrated experience leading electrical design on design-build or EPC projects.Strong knowledge of medium- and low-voltage power systems, grounding, and protection.High Proficiency with electrical design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Visual Lighting, etc.Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field execution challenges.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
