This role focuses on delivering scalable, reliable technical solutions using AWS and Python in a collaborative Agile environment. The Senior Software Engineer works closely with Business Systems Analysts, Quality Assurance, and Product Owners to translate actuarial and business requirements into high‑quality technical solutions. The role also partners across Athene with teams such as Enterprise Data Management, Cloud Operations, and Change Management to ensure solutions are well‑integrated and aligned with enterprise standards. This position requires ownership of deliverables, active participation in Agile ceremonies, and a commitment to building maintainable, secure, and performant data applications that support Athene’s actuarial mission.Accountabilities:Application & Data DevelopmentDesign, develop, test, and deploy ETL applications and data pipelines using Python, AWS. Build processes to support reporting, analytics, and operational workflows for Actuarial and Finance Teams. Ensure code quality, performance optimization, and adherence to development standards at Athene. Actively learns and adopts new initiatives, including AI‑driven development practices Cloud & Infrastructure IntegrationDeploy and manage applications in AWS environments. Leverage AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lamda, Glue, Fargate and Athena for scalable data storage and processing. SDLC ParticipationParticipate in requirements gathering and steer technical design discussions. Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and estimation activities. Perform unit testing, integration testing, UAT and production deployment activities. Participate in code reviews, SDLC cycle, Incident, Release and Change Management. Ensure proper documentation throughout development and release cycles. Production Support & Business OperationsProvide support and engage in BAU processes, including critical deliverables such as quarterly close processes. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner, when required. Collaboration & Stakeholder EngagementCollaborate closely with business stakeholders to translate functional requirements into technical solutions. Work effectively with onsite and offshore teams to ensure alignment and delivery consistency. Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Act as a key contributor to overall delivery outcomes. Qualifications and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of developer experience in a professional/corporate environment. Proficiency in Python, and AWS Services Hands-on experience with AWS AI services like BedRock Knowledge of LLMs, embeddings, prompt engineering, and tool use. Proven ability to prototype, iterate, and scale AI-enabled features. Strong expertise with Data Flow and Integration Demonstrated ability to translate complex operational requirements into effective technology specifications—with a track record of bridging business and technology teams, managing ambiguity in requirements Familiarity with compliance/regulatory needs in insurance or financial services (preferred).
