Faculty members are responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.The full-time Nursing faculty member participates in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the program curriculum. This individual may also be assigned the responsibility of coordinating the efforts of a designated instructional team.Min Salary Mid Salary Duties/FunctionsTeachingPrepare & teach departmental courses to include:developing learner centered lesson plansemploying teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning stylesincorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environmentscreating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population • preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriateupdating and revising curriculum to maintain currencydeveloping new courses as needed to support the instructional missionparticipating in the development and review of course and program/general education outcomes as appropriatedeveloping, conducting and documenting appropriate assessment of student learning in outcomes courses and programs/general education as appropriateProfessional DevelopmentMaintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:* participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation* participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategiesAdministrationProvide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include:maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipmentproviding for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditionsmaintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, Self-Service, Canvas)complying with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulationsStudent SupportProvide an environment conducive to student success to include:conducting recruiting activitiesproviding academic advisingpromoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for successassisting students with the registration and graduation processreferring students to campus and community resources when appropriateCollege ServiceSupport college-wide endeavors to include:collaborating with faculty and staff from other divisions/departments to promote communication, coordinate schedules, and support student successserving on department, division, and college committees • participating in GTCC institutional initiativescollaborating with educational partners, business/industry and/or external agencies as appropriate to promote the instructional mission of GTCCsupporting collegiality and teaching excellence by actively participating in the professional development of new and veteran faculty (e.g., mentoring and peer observation)participating in extracurricular student activities/clubsattending college professional development sessions, college/division/department meetings, graduation and convocation, as requiredDemonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility, and teamwork.Additional Duties & Responsibilities:Maintain student recordsSee external funding sourcesPerform all duties as assigned by supervisorDifficult Challenges Contacts Education RequiredMaster's degree in Nursing from an institutionally accredited college or universityCurrent unrestricted license or multistate license privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North CarolinaPreparation in teaching and learning principles, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment as required by the NC Board of NursingEducation Preferred* Master's degree in Nursing Education from an institutionally accredited college or universityExperience Required* Three years of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse* Teaching and/or industry training experience in nursing topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminarsExperience PreferredGreater than three years of full-time clinical experience as a registered nursePost-secondary teaching experienceExperience with assessment of student learning and/or student learning outcomes.Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional deliveryKSA RequiredThe Instructor shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its "open door" policy. Bloodborne pathogens/personal protective equipment (yearly)2. American Heart Association BLS automatic electronic defibrillator/CPR certification (renewal every 2 years)Additional Requirements:1. Acceptable results on background screening consisting of Criminal Background Check (CBC), Office of Inspector General Review (OIG), and 12 panel drug screen (upon hire).Physical Demands1.
