Editorial Production Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY: This is not a remote position. As a production assistant, you are part of a team that embraces the mission of producing K¬–12 educational materials with a biblical worldview for Christian schools and homeschools. Your primary role is to perform editorial production tasks as assigned, including proofreading textbooks and digital resources. You may be asked to work either independently or under the direction of an editor. Your work increases the value of the products by ensuring their conformity to BJU Press style and departmental guidelines and lowers production costs through efficiency and attentiveness. After successful onboarding, an employee in this position may apply for a hybrid work schedule.Principle Duties And ResponsibilitiesDirect editorial production tasks as assignedProofread BJU Press print and digital productsLearn and review BJU Press style and departmental procedures; suggest updates or improvements to the editorial production specialist or editorial manager as appropriateUphold the BJU Press brand image and publishing standardsComplete special projects as assigned Required Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesStrong skills in English grammar, mechanics, and other characteristics of good writingAn eye for attractive and user-friendly layout and designProficiency in applying the Chicago Manual of Style and other reference sources (can be learned on the job)Ability to follow established proceduresGood organizational skills with attention to detailAbility to stay focused and work efficiently to meet deadlinesAbility to work with a teamExcellent communication skills, verbal and writtenComputer aptitude (file management; experience working with documents in the cloud or online)Acceptable performance on the BJU Press editorial testMicrosoft Office, Teams, Adobe Acrobat ReaderBachelor's degree with 1-2 YOEAn applicant for a position in the Bob Jones University group — Bob Jones University, Bob Jones Academy or BJU Press — must be a born-again Christian who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
