Priority will be given to educators with leadership experience in developing undergraduate curriculum aligned with the professional standards of the discipline, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist in the development of Pre-K & Pre-K-3 licensure pathwaysDevelop and teach undergraduate courses inEarly Childhood EducationSupervise early field experience, practicum, and student teachingEstablish and maintain positive working relationships with areapreschoolsand K-3 partnersEngage in new course development for delivery on campus and via distance methodsConduct scholarly research and creative endeavors, leading to peer-reviewed publicationsParticipate in professional education associations in the candidate's disciplinePursue professional development activities to stay current in the fieldActively participate in program development and assessmentProvide service to the profession and broader communityAdvise undergraduate teacher candidatesParticipate in faculty governanceMinimum Qualifications:Earned doctorate in Education, with specialization inEarly Childhood Education from a regionally accredited and recognized institution.Three(3) or more years of excellent teachingin preschools and K-3 classrooms.Commitment to standards-based teacher preparation that is informed by current research and practice inPre-K-3instruction.Scholarly publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, referred presentations at professional conferences, or demonstrated potential to conduct research and publish scholarly works on topics relevant toPre-K-3 teaching and learning.Interest in and evidence of quality service to the profession and community at largeDemonstrated commitment to diversity and the education of culturally and linguistically diverse populations.ABD candidates must earn their doctorate byAugust 1, 2026.Desirable Qualifications:Successful experience teaching inPre-K-3inclusion, resource, or self-contained classrooms, in partnership with special educators.Demonstrated teaching excellence in culturally and linguistically diverse settingsCommitment to, knowledge of, and/or experience with the mission and purpose of the University of Hawai'i to position the university as a leading indigenous-serving higher education institutionSuccessful experience developing innovative, technology-based courses for delivery to non-traditional studentsKnowledge of Hawai?i State and CAEP accreditation standards and proceduresKnowledge of and experience working in Professional Development SchoolsExcellent post-secondary teaching in a regionally accredited teacher preparation programEvidence of a focused scholarly research agenda that informs the candidate's practiceThe UHWO Education Division, accredited by CAEP in 2020, prepares knowledgeable, skillful, responsive educators for a global society.
