Ontology Data Analyst
Ontology Engineer
Xendat is looking for an Ontology Data Analyst (Pharma) for a mid-term contract role (C2C) with one of our clients. The position is remote.
1. Evaluate large data sets containing candidates for inclusion in the company’s ontology
2. Work closely with engineers, data scientists, ontologists, and taxonomists to standardize and model new ontology terms
3. In partnership with the ontology team, develop a methodology to improve accuracy and efficiency of ontology updates; participate in ontology launches
4. Research external ontology sources and determine whether they present opportunities to increase ontology coverage
5. Ability to quickly understand complex processes and communicate them in simple language
6. Work with pharma business unit stakeholders such as biology, chemistry, research, commercial, and others to build ontology in those business areas
7. Support and manage ontologies tools such as Protégé
8. Ability to integrate RDF ontologies into tech stack using libraries such as RDFLIB and ROBOT
Specific Responsibilities For This Role Include
Responsibilities
Experience with triple stores and graph stores
Proficiency in data analysis, semantic modeling, knowledge and ontology engineering
Strong logical and conceptual reasoning, strong attention to detail
Experience in scripting, preferably using Python
Experience using ontologies to support data integration
Import OWL 2.0 ontologies in NTriples, RDF/XML or OWL/XML format
Export OWL 2.0 ontologies to NTriples or RDF/XML
Manipulates ontology classes, instances and properties transparently, as if they were normal Python objects
Add Python methods to ontology classes
Perform automatic classification of classes and instances, using the HermiT or Pellet reasoner (included)
Native support for optimized SPARQL queries
Qualifications Basic Requirements:
· 5+ years of relevant work experience working in ontology and/or taxonomy roles
· Proven skills in data retrieval and data research techniques
· Pharma and Bio tech experience preferred
· Ability to quickly understand complex processes and communicate them in simple language
· Experience creating and communicating technical requirements to engineering teams
· Knowledge of Semantic Web technologies (RDF/s, OWL), query languages (SPARQL) and validation/reasoning standards (SHACL, SPIN)
· Knowledge of open-source and commercial ontology engineering editors (e.g. Protege, Top Quadrant products, PoolParty)
· Detail-oriented problem solver who can work in fast-changing environment and manage ambiguity
· Proven track record of strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Proficient English language skills
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bio Science and Pharma knowledge and experience is highly desirable
