Non Instructional/Support Services Job Number 4600319294Start DateOpen Date 03/19/2026Closing Date 04/01/2026General Definition of WorkThe area transportation manager, under intermittent supervision, performs supervisory work with minimal decision-making discretion assisting to ensure that all students are provided with safe and efficient transportation to and from school. Position manages the daily operation of their assigned transportation area and makes decisions that align with set policies and procedures. Employee performs district-level work to carry-out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Director of Transportation Operations.Essential FunctionsAdhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and proceduresLead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff/programs in the districtManage transportation operations related to transporting students to and from school, field trips, athletic events, and all other approved events in assigned areaCollaborate in the development and maintenance of bus routes utilizing the automated transportation information system (TIMS)Communicate route adjustments or delays to regularly scheduled bus stops, runs, or routes to the affected schools, drivers, students, and parentsAssist in the determination of school closing due to inclement weather conditionsRespond to questions and provide information to school system and department staff; investigate problems and recommend corrective action as necessaryPrepare and analyze reports on area operations and activitiesComplete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptlyMonitor and evaluate transportation operations and activities of assigned area; recommend improvements and modificationsAssist in the determination of school closing due to inclement weather conditionsInvestigate accidents involving school buses and other school district vehicles; complete and submit required attorney general office reportsPerform 24 hour on-call response support for requests of transportation services to handle emergencies and unusual situations within Mecklenburg CountyPlan and deliver regular safety meetings and other required trainingCollaborate with administrators, principals, parents, students, bus drivers, and bus monitors to improve safety and quality of transportation servicesAttend parent and school level meetings regarding transportation issues or service levelsParticipate in professional development workshops and trainingCreate an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relationsPerform related work as assigned or requiredEducation and ExperienceBachelor's degree in a related field required, or a high school diploma/GED with ten (10) years of increasing responsible related experience requiredExperience supervising pupil transportation preferredEquivalent combination of education and experience# of Jobs 1.00Salary: From 69600.00Teacher Scale NMinimum Educational Requirements BachelorsTerm 12 MonthAdditional Job InformationKnowledge, Skills, AbilitiesThorough knowledge of federal, state, and local polices/codes and procedures regarding school buses and transportation of studentsThorough knowledge of daily personnel management of staff and recruitmentThorough knowledge of school bus safety and accident investigation requirements/protocolsKnowledge of vehicle maintenance managementWorking knowledge of bus routingSkilled in technology with demonstrated ability to use spreadsheet software and word processing softwareAbility to maintain professional and emotional control under stressAbility to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanorAbility to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needsAbility to manage and evaluate the work of othersAbility to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operationsAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationshipsAbility to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediumsAbility to problem-solve utilizing sound judgmentAbility to maintain confidentiality regarding school system businessAbility to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgementAbility to work effectively in a deadline-driven, rapidly changing team environmentAbility to be on-call and respond outside of regular business hours
