Operations & Fitness SpecialistWarford Activity CenterFull-Time | Monday-Friday | 6:00 AM - 3:00 PMPosition SummaryThe Operations & Fitness Specialist serves in a dual role supporting daily facility operations and leading health and wellness programming. This position is responsible for managing front desk operations, delivering exceptional customer service, handling administrative financial processes, and leading group fitness classes.As the primary morning building supervisor, this role ensures the facility opens efficiently and operates smoothly throughout the day. The Operations & Fitness Specialist also serves as a substitute instructor and supports overall wellness programming in coordination with the Health & Wellness Coordinator.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesFacility Operations & Front Desk Management* Open and prepare the facility each weekday morning (6:00 AM).* Oversee front desk operations to ensure efficient, professional, and customer-focused service.* Provide high-level customer service to members and guests.* Answer and direct phone calls promptly and professionally.* Process facility reservations and program registrations.* Manage all deposit refunds associated with facility reservations.* Maintain accurate records related to reservations, rentals, and program participation.* Assist in resolving customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.Financial & Administrative Responsibilities* Process deposits, credit card transactions, and related financial documentation.* Prepare and submit vendor payment vouchers (PVs).* Ensure accuracy in financial transactions and reconciliation processes.* Maintain confidentiality and compliance with financial procedures and internal controls.* Assist with reporting and documentation as required.Fitness & Wellness Programming* Lead 3-5 group fitness classes per week.* Provide safe, effective, and engaging instruction for participants of varying ability levels.* Substitute for additional fitness classes in the absence of the Health & Wellness Coordinator.* Promote health and wellness programs to increase participation and member engagement.* Maintain appropriate fitness certifications and continuing education requirements.Leadership & Operational Support* Serve as a key morning point of contact for staff, members, and facility users.* Coordinate with custodial and part-time front desk staff to ensure smooth daily operations.* Rotate on-call weekend coverage with other management staff.* Support special events, facility rentals, and operational needs as required.QualificationsEducation & Experience* Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Business Administration, or related field preferred.* High School diploma or GED required.* Minimum 1-2 years of experience in recreation, fitness instruction, customer service, or facility operations.* Experience handling financial transactions and administrative processes preferred.Certifications* Current nationally recognized Group Fitness Certification and Personal Training Certification; or the ability to obtain once hired.* CPR/AED/First Aid Certification required; or the ability to obtain once hired.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities* Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.* Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.* Strong organizational and financial accuracy skills.* Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.* Proficiency with scheduling and registration software systems.* Ability to lead and motivate diverse participant groups.Physical Requirements* Ability to lead active fitness classes.* Ability to stand for extended periods.* Ability to lift up to 25-40 pounds as needed for equipment setup.Work Schedule* Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM* Rotating weekend on-call responsibility with management team.The City of Amarillo is an Equal Opportunity employer and encourages applications from eligible and qualified persons regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, age, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, familial status, disability, genetic information or protected veteran status, in compliance with applicable federal, state and local law.The City of Amarillo provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities on a case by case basis.
