We are intentional about treating every person in need with dignity and respect, so they receive much more than a bed to sleep in—they receive the tools necessary to achieve self-sufficiency.Breakthrough’s women and men's transitional housing shelter first aim to meet immediate needs of food and shelter through our kitchens, on-site laundry and showers. Guests then receive on-site primary and mental health care, employment training, and housing search assistance and placement.Position SummaryDemonstrating the mission and vision of Breakthrough Urban Ministries, the Program Assistant serves to ensure the health and safety of each individual seeking shelter and other supportive services by promoting growth, recovery, and self-sufficiency.Essential Responsibilities/FunctionsMeet with guests in Transitional Housing Program in partnership with case manager to facilitate transition from crisis to stabilityConduct intake and follow preventative procedures with all individuals entering the facility during the shiftProvides supportive services to residents as needed/deemed appropriate to support their goals towards self-sufficiencyEnforce all rules and regulations of Breakthrough’s Homeless Intervention ProgramCoordinate, cooperate and communicate with other staff, guests and partnering agencies in a positive, effective, and professional mannerEnter participant information into the Salesforce/HMIS database in a timely matter and update as needed in accordance with Breakthrough’s established guidelines.Complete required documentation, log, etc. during scheduled shiftAssign guests chores, provide instruction/education and monitor to ensure task completionConduct bed/room inspections as requiredEnsure all guests have access to showers and all necessary items for a comfortable experience.Prepare accurate reportsPosition requires continuous program coverage; employee may be required to remain on shift until relieved by the next assigned staff member.Perform other duties as assignedDemonstrated ValuesIndependently follows agency policy and proceduresFollows through with commitments including meeting established timelinesIdentifies and resolves difficult issuesProject a professional image to all internal and external customers ensuring proper groomingPromote wellness and customer care through all actions and behaviorsWorks effectively with diverse staff, communities and population served Maintain a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy during stressful situations.A passion for the mission of Breakthrough Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesA minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; some college course work preferredAt least one year of directly related experience or minimum of 2 years of customer service experienceExperience with Microsoft Office, as well as the willingness to become proficient in other software packages and programsMust maintain a valid driver’s license along with daily access to a vehicle and acceptable driving recordRequired Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of standard case management protocolsAbility to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to use initiative, discretion and independent judgment in making decisionsAbility to demonstrate initiative and follow through and be comfortable working in a changing environmentDemonstrates willingness to consistently improve work performance through their relationship and guidanceAbility to maintain confidentiality Ability to embrace principles of nonviolence to create safer communitiesEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.Must possess an accurate and informed understanding of cultural and urban realities, especially as related to youth, families, poverty, and community developmentSUPERVISIONThis position has no direct reportsPhysical Requirements And Working ConditionsWork EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a multi-purpose facility and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be high depending on the activities in the facility.Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit; use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; regularly talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, lift as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 50 pounds. Must adhere to proper handling and lifting techniques. This leave can be used for medical and safety reasons.Paid leave - Part-time employees in this position are eligible for 1 hour of paid pay for every 35 hours worked in a pay period.
