Maryland Judiciary Benefits (mdcourts.gov)About the Maryland Court System | Maryland Courts (mdcourts.gov)Maryland Judiciary Pay Scale June 2025Essential Job FunctionsThis is an entry-level clerical position performing case processing duties and responsibilities daily which entails a high volume of data entry work for the Criminal/Traffic department of the Worcester County District Court. The Judiciary Clerk provides efficient and quality customer service to the public and other agencies by accurately answering inquiries, entering data and processing documents. This includes maintaining and processing for all phases of criminal/traffic cases, including expungements.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesPerform data entry and process criminal/traffic correspondence received including commissioner work, mail, and filings received through File & Serve. Schedule all types of cases of the criminal/traffic type. Process rulings on motions, enter new civil citations, municipal infractions, and DNR citations. Schedule and confirm trial dates with attorneys when necessary. Work reports run in the Odyssey system.Assist the public at the counter with general inquiries; provide information when needed; distribute forms; answer general routine questions regarding traffic, criminal, and civil cases; provide directions to other departments and agencies; and answer and transfer telephone calls to appropriate departments.Accept expungement petitions from File & Serve or over the counter. Pull file and docket sheets matching with petition, or order from District Court warehouse (if not scanned into MDEC). Scan into proper events. Verify filing fee is paid, if applicable. Check financials and bond forfeitures. Process orders from Circuit Court.Verify all information on petition for accuracy. Send out deficiency notes for missing or inaccurate information. Add private attorney and state?s attorney if necessary. In the event of a mixed criminal/traffic case, unrelate any payable traffic citations that are not expungablePrepare order for expungement and send to judge for signature. Enter proper event to shield case from public view. True test order. Mail copies of order and compliance to proper parties. Scan compliances to case that have been returned to the court.Set hearing dates of objection hearings. Enter judge?s ruling at the conclusion of the hearing. Keep expungement and marital privilege indexes current. Prepare transmittals of record when sending out petitions and orders.Process MD 2nd Chance Act petitions and automatic expungements per SB201.Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma (or GED equivalent).ExperienceOne (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.NoteA Bachelor?s Degree may substitute the required work experience.A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.A Paralegal Certificate May Substitute The Required Work ExperienceKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge OfGeneral office practices, procedures, and equipment.Standard legal forms and documents used in the Judiciary.Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.Skill InCustomer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.Typing on a personal computer.Accuracy and attention to detail.Ability ToUse standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, microfilm machine, register, scanner, fax machine, etc.Use and maintain alphabetical and numerical filing systems.Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with judges, the public, police agencies, attorneys, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing.Understand and abide by departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.Exercise tact, diplomacy, and impartiality in dealing with the public, law enforcement personnel, and attorneys.Follow procedures, verbal and written instructions, and protocols for any given assignment.Use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.Exercise independent judgement in interpreting and applying appropriate policy, procedure, rule, law, and/or regulation to a situation.Set priorities and simultaneously process multiple duties and responsibilities.Utilize District Court tip sheets in order to complete assignments and assist customers.Work efficiently within time constraints.Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.Physical RequirementsPerform all essential functions of the position. Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
