Co-Op - Polymer Synthesis

THIS OPPORTUNITY IS FOR PRESELECTED CANDIDATES ONLY********ResponsibilitiesSynthesize new polymers for use in advanced technologies that meet performance specifications based on a fundamental understanding of polymer structure/property relationshipConduct analytical methods and implement sampling and measuring protocols to characterize polymers and evaluate reaction results, including GPC, thermal analysis (DSC and TGA), Rheology, FTIR and UV-Vi’s spectroscopy.Formulate implants of various geometries with newly synthesized polymersPerform swell test, hydroxyl titrations, acid-base titrationsDaily runs using LCMS, GPC, and GCPerform encapsulation of drugs in nanoparticlesWith guidance, select, design, and/or execute experiments, based on interpretation of previous results and understanding of known theoryContribute to innovative approaches to achieve project goalsAnticipate/recognize potential problems with equipment and/or supplies, and initiate action to solve or prevent problemsPerform literature review to better understand any experimental problems and how to solve themKeep detailed records of experiments and results in the laboratory notebookPresent research to the R&D team at the end of co-opQualificationsEnrolled in BS/MS in Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related fields.Some experience working in a wet chemical lab requiredExperience working with polymers, biomaterials, and/or APIs preferredExperience with polymer synthesis and characterization preferredMust have advanced knowledge of MS office
