ControllerBohemia (Long Island) | Onsite (WFH flexibility ~1x/month)$140,000$170,000 + generous benefitsA privately owned commercial construction company on Long Island is seeking a Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role overseeing everything from cash flow and payroll to job costing across a fast-moving portfolio of active projects.This company operates with 2540 projects at any given time, ranging from $1M$10M, with timelines spanning a few weeks to 26 months. You'll partner closely with leadership and Project Managers to ensure financial accuracy, profitability, and strong business performance.What You'll OwnMonitor daily cash flow, receivables, and collectionsOversee bank reconciliations and manage a $5M$12M line of creditPrepare and maintain cash flow forecasts aligned with project and payroll cyclesOversee weekly in-house payroll for ~200 employees (scaling to ~600 W2s annually)Manage full payroll cycle including tax filings, union requirements, compliance, and year-end reportingSupervise payroll team and ensure accurate, timely processingAnalyze financials across 2540 active projects on an ongoing basisReview job cost reports, including under/overbilling, cost overruns, and margin erosionPartner with Project Managers to maintain accurate job profitabilityTrack WIP and ensure proper revenue recognitionPrepare financial data for tax filingsLead annual audit process and coordinate with external CPA firmSupport insurance reporting and compliance requirementsManage and mentor accounting team (AP, AR, Payroll)Maintain efficient workflows and clear ownership across accounting functionsOversee benefits administration (FSA, 401k, etc.)Support onboarding and payroll-related HR functionsWhat You Bring810+ years of accounting experience, ideally in construction or project-based environmentsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)Strong foundation in GL, financial reporting, and analysisExpertise in cash flow management, forecasting, and bank reconciliationsExperience with in-house payroll (highly preferred)Exposure to job costing/WIP (strong plus)Audit support and tax prep experienceAbility to oversee AP/AR and payroll teams effectivelyAdvanced Excel skills; experience with Foundation a plus********LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY - LONG ISLAND HIGHLY PREFERREDPlease Note: This position is open to candidates who are authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
