Chief Medical Officer (CMO)

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (onsite 5 days a week). The primary role of the CMO will be to provide leadership and direction for CCH’s primary care and behavioral health departments. The CMO will be responsible for the strategy, direction, and execution of the company’s clinical and behavioral development plans. The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of primary and preventative medical and behavioral health care in a community healthcare setting. The Chief Medical Officer provides treatment and oversight of high quality, comprehensive, patient centered healthcare for adults and children and must treat within the scope of practice for the State of Michigan. RESPONSIBILITIES1. Examines and provides direct patient care, preventative care, and develops treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care and professional practice guidelines; refers individuals for specialty treatment as indicated.2. Advises patients, parents or guardians concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention; provides health and wellness advice to patients/families.3. Effectively communicates with other health care providers or community resources to provide comprehensive, all-encompassing care.4. Educates patients/families and the community about the prevention and self-management of acute and chronic medical conditions; recommends interventions to modify behaviors associated with health risks.5. Prescribes appropriate medications, dosages, routes, and frequencies based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized; counsels patients/families about drug regiments and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as over- the –counter and illicit drugs.6. Documents patient/doctor contacts as they occur to reflect an accurate and complete medical record based on the nature of the contact, patient condition and treatment provided. 7. Maintains compliance with productivity requirements ensuring timely completion of documentation (within 24 hours of the kept appointment) and thorough and accurate coding of patient visits.8. Participates in a multidisciplinary care team and identifies problems and provides feedback to team members regarding a solution. 9. Directs residency program and supervises residents. 10. Oversees medical component of CCH’s MAT program.11. Assists in the credentialling of medical staff and completes fitness for duty attestations for CCH staff.12. Partners, identifies, and assesses new or changing practice needs; analyzes the impact on the practice (including staff, facility, equipment, operating costs, etc.) and initiates actions necessary to accomplish proposed goals. 13. Facilitates necessary in-service training programs, space redesign, and equipment purchases associated with practice needs/goals; determines agency-wide impact and advises ancillary personnel accordingly.14. Develops efficiency enhancing workflows, oversees implementation and evaluates employee performance and functional or clinical service process ensuring consistency with professional standards.15. Collaborates with the leadership team to develop an annual operating and capital budget that includes medical supplies, services, pharmaceuticals, staffing and grants; identifies and analyzes financial impact (return on investment) of new or revised services.16. Monitors expenditure levels and takes action to ensure consistency with budgetary targets; considers number of patients served, no show rates, scheduling patterns, suite utilization and cost per visit.17. Ensures continuous flow of communication with the leadership team to enhance the quality of healthcare service to our patients; provides monthly reports concerning issues, program status, initiatives and progress to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors as requested.18. Supervises practice staff including recruitment and termination, education, clinical competencies, performance evaluation and expectations. Ensures high standards of performance by proactively addressing performance issues, including coaching and disciplinary conversations and by feedback provided through the performance appraisal process.19. Develops agency policies and programs which follow the most current accepted professional guidelines to assure FQHC, NCQA, and other regulatory standards; demonstrates compliance with agency and state/federal guidelines.20. Provides medical and clinical leadership for the programs, including direct responsibility for the development of study protocols and execution of clinical trials, ensuring adherence to good clinical practices, regulatory requirements and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of participants in our trials.21. Responsible for oversight of studies performed by contract research organizations on behalf of CCH.22. Participates in the integration of services including primary and pediatric care, behavior health, medical services and supportive housing; serves as a resource to other providers and staff.23. Take part in performance improvement activities such as quality assurance audits, continuing education, Patient Centered Medical Home processes, medication administration reviews, and peer reviews.24. Participates in meetings/conferences and continuing education and demonstrates a genuine desire to develop strategies for improved clinic operations and high-level patient care.25. Ensures state licensure and national certification remain current and valid.26. Maintains economical and efficient patient care in a clean and safe environment.27. Assures patients’ rights are being always maintained.28. Performs all other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE· Doctorate degree in Medicine required.· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.· Valid unrestricted Michigan medical doctor license in the State of Michigan required.· Board certified by the American Board of Medicine required.· Minimum of five (5) years of clinical and executive leadership experience, including responsibility for fiscal and medical staff management required.
