Automation Engineer Business Development Manager
Key ResponsibilitiesAutomation Engineering & Technical SupportDesign, develop, and program PLC and HMI solutions for machine control, data collection, and process automation.Specify and select automation hardware including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, drives, motion controllers, and electrical control panel components.Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, electrical codes, safety regulations, and customer requirements.Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve software and system issues using strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Support field service technicians during system startups, commissioning, and on-site troubleshooting.Provide ongoing technical support for production systems and resolve design or assembly issues as needed.Business Development & SalesIdentify and pursue new business opportunities across industrial, commercial, healthcare, and municipal markets.Sell automation products and services, with an emphasis on service, contracting, maintenance, and repair solutions.Develop and maintain strong relationships with purchasers, maintenance teams, plant managers, operations managers, and key decision-makers.Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to develop customized automation solutions aligned with customer needs.Generate, qualify, and manage leads using CRM tools, maintaining a robust and accurate sales pipeline.Leverage digital platforms such as LinkedIn, industry networks, and professional associations for prospecting and outreach.Negotiate and close sales opportunities, meeting or exceeding revenue and growth targets.Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and differentiators.Work closely with marketing to align outreach strategies, improve lead generation, and provide customer feedback.Provide regular feedback to leadership to enhance service offerings, customer engagement, and go-to-market strategies.Preferred Skills & CompetenciesIndustrial integration experience with automation platforms such as ABB, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Ignition, and Wonderware.Strong background in PLC, HMI, VFD, SCADA, and Serial/Ethernet communication interfaces.Experience designing intuitive user interfaces and HMIs for industrial applications.Knowledge of motion control systems, drives, and industrial networking.Understanding of VFD manufacturers such as Toshiba, Client, or similar suppliers.Solid understanding of control systems, automation solutions, and the industrial automation competitive landscape.Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.Ability to translate complex technical concepts into customer-focused solutions.Education & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business, or a related field (preferred), or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.3+ years of experience in automation engineering, technical sales, business development, or industrial automation services.Proven experience selling automation, service, contracting, or maintenance and repair solutions.Additional RequirementsAbility to travel as needed to customer sites and industry events.Valid driver's license.Successful completion of a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
