Position Summary:
In this role, you will be working on our Daedex and DeepCoolAI line of products to bring new technology into mission-critical markets like data centers, battery plants, chip manufacturing and more. We are seeking a qualified, innovative Commissioning Project Engineer to join our growing organization. The purpose of the role is to lead the end-to-end commissioning process for HVAC and cooling systems in data centers. This includes leading the commissioning team, managing technical deliverables, coordinating with engineering disciplines, and validating all systems meet design intent, operational reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
The candidate will be working with liquid coolant distribution units and HVAC systems and components including but not limited to: enthalpy & sensible plate heat exchangers, energy recovery wheels, gas and electric heaters, hot water coils, cold water coils, DX coils, filter racks, control dampers, fan array systems, coolant distribution units, etc.
Travel to facilities is required, 40% - 75%+
Key Responsibilities:
Commissioning Execution
Oversee integrated system testing for HVAC systems, including CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, economizers, coolant distribution units, and associated controls.
Lead and mentor a team of commissioning engineers and/or technicians to develop a plan, coordinate resources, and ensure successful outcomes for safety, quality, on-time-completion, and cost optimization.
Validate sequences of operation for building management systems and ensure proper integration with electrical and IT systems.
Manage load bank testing and thermal performance verification under simulated and live conditions.
Ensure Team management of Materials and Equipment required to support craft including Tool Cribs and Materials Storage
Technical Documentation
Review mechanical design drawings, submittals, and shop drawings for compliance with project specifications.
Approve commissioning scripts, functional test procedures, and maintain redline documentation for as-built conditions.
Generate final commissioning reports including test results, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including work instructions and process plans, ensuring compliance with quality standards like AS9100 and IQ/OQ/PQ.
Awareness of UL3223 and the Certification Deliverables
Ensure your staff Documents customer/site/vendor issues into relevant Customer Construction Software (i.e. Procore) to support Change orders or Constrained Work Stoppage
Coordination & Interface
Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource plans for commissioning activities.
Interface with mechanical engineers, controls specialists, contractors, vendors, and electrical teams to ensure timely delivery and installation of air handling and cooling systems and resolve technical issues rapidly and thoroughly.
Ensure alignment with industry guidelines and client-specific commissioning standards.
Risk & Reliability
Identify potential failure points in cooling infrastructure and implement mitigation strategies.
Validate N+1 or 2N redundancy configurations and ensure compliance with data center requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
Minimum 3 years in HVAC commissioning for mission-critical facilities
Deep knowledge of chilled water systems and airflow management
Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders
Familiarity with commissioning software tools and building management system platforms
Strong understanding of industry and ISO standards
Strong verbal and written skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and write rigorous technical reports
Willing and able to travel frequently and for extended periods of time up to 50% at peak loads but average less than 25%
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred:
PMP or CxA certification
Lean Six Sigma certification
