Associate Engineer Windsor Mill, MD (Hybrid - 3 days in office) Contract to Hire Compensation: $37.00 - $45.00/hr (Depending on Experience - 40hr/week) In this role, you will support system protection and control engineering for transmission and substation projects, focusing on the design, engineering, and commissioning of electrical substations to meet growing demands and improve reliability. You will be part of a collaborative team, receiving hands-on training and guidance from Senior Engineers to build technical competency in electric utility protection and control systems. This position offers exposure to a Fortune 100 company, technical training, and professional development opportunities through the Elevate program, which includes 12 months of upskilling and mentorship to support a seamless full-time conversion process. ResponsibilitesDevelop and review protective relay settings and coordination studies for transmission and substation equipmentDesign and analyze control schemes for substation switching, protection, and automation systemsSupport commissioning and testing of protective relays, control panels, and associated equipmentInterpret and produce one-line diagrams, schematic drawings, and wiring diagramsCollaborate with senior engineers on engineering calculations, technical reports, and project documentationParticipate in field work at substations as required, including relay testing and troubleshootingEnsure compliance with NERC reliability standards, internal standards, and applicable codesCoordinate with operations, maintenance, and project management teams on transmission and substation engineering deliverables QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering1-3 years of professional engineering experience with knowledge of engineering designs, principles, practices, and safety codesDemonstrated interest in or academic exposure to power systems, controls, or protection principlesAbility to interpret electrical schematics, relay logic diagrams, and technical specificationsKnowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theoryProficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skillsExperience in the power, utilities, or manufacturing industry is a plusKnowledge of SCADA systems, substations, or communication protocols is a plus What's in for you?
