Surgery Scheduler - General Surgery
Role:Provide surgical scheduling duties in the Nursing DepartmentEssential Functions & Responsibilities:Schedules patients for surgery, completing facility paperworkMaintains and updated surgery schedule several times a day so that facility and physicians schedules reflect an accurate scheduleObtains surgical prior authorizations after insurance company verificationCompletes surgeon requests in coordination with vendors and Materials ManagerCommunicates with patients regarding pre-operative procedure needs such as pre-operative appointments, testing, and instructions. Knowledgeable of pre-operative needs for a variety of surgical proceduresConsistently performs specific assigned daily and general duties; meet deadlinesRegularly attends and participates in assigned meetingsMeets established attendance criteria and starts work promptlyKnows and consistently implements the organizations mission and all approved policies, protocols, and procedures.Regularly supports compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned (e.g. OSHA, HIPAA)Consistently demonstrates good use of time and resourcesMaintaining personal contact with patients and relatives, being sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity, and privacy and ensuring a friendly environment at all times.Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to timeAssists with front desk clerical tasks at the surgery centers as requiredEffectively communicates with patients/families and other members of health care team over the phone.Demonstrates initiative to keep clinic flow moving through effectively prioritizing workUnderstands importance of personal contribution and demonstrates teamwork Performance Measures:Performs all Essential Job functions and responsibilities.Maintains a professional and positive attitude, appearance and relationship with patients and staff.Observes all clinic guidelines and polices. Knowledge & Skills:Experience: Minimum one year experience as a Medical Assistant, Surgical scheduler or related jobEducation: High School Education or GED equivalent, CNA, CMA, or completion of a Medical Assisting program is preferred, BLS is requiredInterpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to courtesy, good attitude and tact. Clear and effective communication is required. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Work involves being a team player. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.Other Skills:Ability to deal with the public efficiently, courteously, politely, and effectivelyKnowledge of EMR systemProficient computer skillsKnowledge of medical terminology is preferredKnowledge of surgical procedures is desirableMust demonstrate consistent professional conductMust possess excellent verbal and written communication as well as excellent interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other health care professionals Physical Requirements:Occasionally lifts or carriers items weighing up to 25 poundsRequires full range of body motionRequires standing and walking for extensive periods of timeVision and hearing to normal range
