The Opportunity
Founded in 2019, Sahan Journal has transformed Minnesota's media landscape with groundbreaking coverage on issues vital to immigrants and communities of color, such as education, healthcare, immigration, climate, and housing. Our reporting emphasizes equity, access, and accountability.
Sahan Journal seeks a Membership Manager to help build and nurture a diverse and engaged community of supporters. This role is crucial for sustaining and growing our impactful journalism.
We are looking for a creative and data-savvy professional with experience in digital fundraising, membership programs, and multicultural communications. The Membership Manager will play a key role in converting journalistic impact into financial support and engaged readership.

The successful candidate will join a full-time staff of 24 and a growing revenue team with ambitious goals.
Scope and Responsibilities
The Membership Manager will develop strategies to maximize individual giving and member loyalty. Responsibilities include acquiring and retaining donors with gifts from $5 to $1,200, with a focus on mid-range donor cultivation.
This role works within a three-member development team and collaborates with sales, marketing, audience growth, and community engagement teams, supporting Sahan Journal's evolution from startup to a primary news source.
Specific Responsibilities
Collaborate across audience and revenue teams.
Develop and execute a communications strategy to engage current and potential donors, focusing on digital and multicultural outreach.
Create and manage email campaigns, including audience segmentation, A/B testing, and content development.
Lead digital fundraising initiatives, applying best practices to acquire, renew, and retain donors, including partnerships with organizations like the Institute for Nonprofit News.
Create strategies to cultivate mid-range donors, bridging small-dollar and major contributors.
Oversee cultivation, stewardship, and engagement communications.
Ensure consistent brand voice across campaigns and organization.
Monitor digital membership metrics, track progress toward goals, and provide reports.
Manage Salesforce, News Revenue Hub, and other vendor relationships.
Analyze revenue and expenses to optimize support for income growth.
Manage vendor quotes and contracts for membership activities.
Represent Sahan Journal at conferences and meetings as needed.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Deep understanding of immigrant and BIPOC communities.
Five or more years of nonprofit experience with strong collaboration skills.
Willingness to innovate within public-media fundraising.
Strong data analysis skills; familiarity with audience research preferred.
Experience with Salesforce, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, and Stripe is a plus.
Proven experience in nonprofit individual giving, including online solicitation and direct mail.
Experience with annual fund campaigns and relationship-building with stakeholders.
Proficiency in loyalty marketing and/or membership programs and related software.
Salary and Benefits
Salary starts at $64,000, based on experience.
