BEHAVIORAL / EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT
*Emerald Behavior & Education Specialists*
Emerald Behavior & Education Specialists is a small, locally owned behavioral and educational agency serving students throughout Northern California. Since 2013, we have partnered with schools, families, and educators to help students with autism, developmental disabilities, learning differences, and behavioral challenges become more independent, successful, and connected to their communities.
We’re looking for _Behavior Assistants_ who want to do more than simply supervise a student through the school day. You’ll work directly with a student, helping them learn new skills, participate successfully in their classroom, communicate more effectively, build independence, and replace challenging behaviors with better ways of getting their needs met.
*What makes Emerald different?*
Do you ever feel like you’re just “employee number 437” in some big company where they barely know your name and your “supervisor” knows less than you do? We did. So, we started Emerald. We’re a small agency - and we like it that way. Our Behavior Assistants work closely with experienced Emerald Behavior Analysts and Education Specialists who know their students, know their staff, and are available when support is needed. We focus on _real, observable progress_ rather than simply offering another impersonal “temp” service.
Our philosophy is straightforward: students don't engage in challenging behavior because they're “bad.” Behavior has a purpose. Our job is to understand what a student is communicating, use good data to figure out what is working, and teach skills to help the student succeed _without_ using problem behaviors to meet their needs.
*SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES*
· Implement the instructional plan with direction and support from us
· Teach positive alternatives to problem behaviors
· Provide positive reinforcement for appropriate behavior
· Teach academic, communication, social, and independence skills
· Collect meaningful behavioral data and help the team use it to make better decisions
· Work collaboratively with Emerald specialists, teachers, and other school staff
· Receive training and ongoing support from experienced behavioral and educational professionals
*Who are we looking for?*
We’re looking for people who are dependable, curious, patient, willing to learn, able to work as part of a team, and most importantly who genuinely respect the students we serve.
*QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:*
· High School Diploma required, BA preferred.
· 2 years’ experience working with individuals with learning, behavior or emotional challenges in a professionally supervised program preferred.
· Background working with families or education professionals as well as individuals of different age groups preferred.
· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
· Ability to make independent, logical and practical decisions.
· Ability to work collaboratively with the student's support team including parents, teachers, counselors, specialists.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
At Emerald, we believe students deserve engaging, appropriate educational experiences and the opportunity to become as independent as possible. We also believe employees do their best work when they are respected, well trained, supported, and appreciated.
