Port Mechanic Trainee

OverviewTrain and assist in performing routine maintenance requirements on a fleet of tugs and barges as directed by the Port Mechanic, Barge Superintendent, and Port Engineer.ResponsibilitiesThe job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Train and assist in performing inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures. Train and assist in performing repair and maintenance work on vessels as required. Repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions at all hours. Work with other company mechanics as needed. Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications. Perform any other duties as assigned or requested.Qualifications Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port in all weather conditions. Must be able to read, speak, write, type, and understand English in person and over the telephone. Ability to work with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment. Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance. Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crewmembers. Must possess a valid State drivers' license. Must pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening. Job Condition and Environment Exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.) Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours. Able to work weekends, holidays, and at night. Willing to take call outs. Use of: Mechanics hand and power tools, grinders, forklift Required to work aboard boats and barges using winches and mechanical tools for repairs.Company OverviewHarley Marine Services, Inc. is a leading provider of marine transportation services in the United States.
