MASSILLON CITY SCHOOLSEXTERNAL JOB POSTING"We are an Equal Opportunity Employer"Position: Special Education Aide - MD / Cross Category ClassroomClassification: ClassifiedBuilding: Massillon Intermediate & Junior High SchoolHours: Monday - Friday (7:15 am - 2:45 pm; 7 hours paid, 1⁄2 hour unpaid lunch) hours may varySalary: $15.94 / HRReports to: Director of Student Services, Building Principal/DesigneeDeadline: Until filledJOB DESCRIPTIONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSTake students off bus in the morning and bring them to the classroomHelp in preparing for school: book bags, lunches, coats, folders, etc.Fill out attendanceAssist students to classes individually, or as a classAccompany students to their individual classes; music, art, gym, computer and swimmingKeep students on task and in their seat during classroom instruction and continue lesson as planned if teacher is called out of the roomAssist students in learning centers and provide positive instructions and directions during individual seat workSupervise students during activity periodsAssist students to the restroom individually, help with clothing, washing hands, changing diapers, personal hygieneLifting student to assist when necessary including lifting for toileting needsAccompany students to lunchroom, assist with eating when necessaryMonitor students during time after lunch if neededDiscipline throughout the day, in and outside of the classroom by using a positive but firm correction of behavior and use reinforcement to encourage improvementEncourage independence throughout daily activities with each student to their own individual abilityRespect confidentiality of personal informationAny additional duties that may be assigned by teacher and principal/designeeOTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESServe as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beingsBy example, instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic valuesChaperone field tripsMake school related telephone calls for teacherAdminister first aide to children as necessaryPerform correspondence, including reports and such other correspondence as may be requiredSupervise general housekeeping dutiesRespond to routine questions and request in an appropriate mannerPerform other duties as assigned by the teacher, office staff, Principal/designee, or Director of Student ServicesQUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) - proof requiredMust hold a valid Ohio Teacher's aide CertificateMust have ESEA qualified designation (State Parapro Assessment) or two years of higher education; associate's degree or higherPrevious experience with handicapped students preferredREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESRespect confidentiality of personal information and classroom behavior of students with anyone outside relevant professional staff and the classroomBe aware of classroom procedures regarding token reinforcement systemBe aware of classroom procedures regarding positive verbalsBe aware of classroom procedures regarding guidance without giving answersBe aware of classroom procedures regarding communication with parentsADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONSExposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissueOperation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to school on all scheduled workdays, except calamity daysInteraction among unruly childrenRequirement to travelRegular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel and stoopOccasional carrying/lifting paper and other classroom supplies up to a maximum of 50 poundsThe job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
