Special Knowledge/Skills:Ability to work with fellow employees.Mature judgment.Proficient oral and written communication skills.Physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to assist in evacuating the bus in an emergency. Heavy lifting and dragging (50) pounds and over. Experience:Day care, nursing home or related experiences dealing with special needs individuals preferred.Major Duties andResponsibilities:Student Management:Monitor student behavior, maintain student discipline and intervene to maintain a safe ride on bus.Provide student-specific personal care service for students using a wheelchair or other assistive devices, or for students who have a medical condition/physical condition.Escort and assist students with special needs.Maintain personal conduct and appearance of a professional manner and that serves as an example to children. Safety:Aid driver in maintaining order and safety.Perform emergency bus evacuation of students on bus, if needed: walking to rear of bus, exiting the rear door, and/or lifting students in emergency situations.Assist or provide student-specific safety activities such as: escorting on and off bus, car seat/safety harness management, address elopement behaviors. Other:Maintain cleanliness of bus interior.Participate in cross trainingEstablish and maintain a good rapport with students, parents, school personnel and co-workers.Attend in-service training classes and safety meetings as required by the department.Learn assigned routes in order to assist a substitute driver.Perform other duties as assigned.SupervisoryResponsibilities:NoneEquipment Used:Wheelchair lift ramp, locks, seatbelts, harnesses, car seats, special adaptive equipment.Working Conditions:Mental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stress.Work with frequent interruptions.This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public. Physical Demands:Repetitive hand motions.Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
