Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is an advanced engineering organization developing next-generation, mission-critical hardware systems designed to operate in extreme and highly regulated environments. They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support complex hardware from design through release and test.Location: Seattle, WA. Hybrid work schedule with 1-day per week required onsite.Duration: 5 months with possible extensionCompensation: $68.00 - $74.00 per hour. Work sponsorship is not available at this time.ResponsibilitiesCreate detailed CAD models, drawings, and configurations for mechanical hardware including mechanisms, tooling, and routed systemsGenerate complete component and assembly documentation, resolving design issues and discrepancies as neededApply engineering and manufacturing best practices to balance cost, schedule, and performance requirementsCollaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams (electrical, thermal, structural, manufacturing) to implement system-level requirementsEnsure compliance with drafting standards and industry best practicesIdentify and implement design improvements to enhance reliability, manufacturability, and performanceParticipate in design reviews and perform model and drawing checks prior to releaseSupport hardware builds, integration, and test activities as designs progressKey Qualifications and SkillsRequired:Associate’s Degree in Drafting or Engineering Technology with 7+ years of experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experienceStrong proficiency with SolidWorks, including drawing generation and PDM workflowsExperience producing release-quality drawings and managing revisionsSolid understanding of GD&T and drawing standards (ASME Y14.x series)Hands-on experience designing parts that were manufactured, assembled, and testedPractical knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detailClear written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving environmentNice to Have:Experience in high-reliability or regulated industries (aerospace, energy, defense, robotics, advanced manufacturing)Exposure to pressure vessels, complex mechanisms, or ruggedized systemsFamiliarity with tolerance stack-ups and fit analysesExperience working within formal quality systems (e.g., AS9100, ISO, NQA-style environments)Prior support of test hardware, fixtures, or ground support equipmentAbout Hansell TierneyHansell Tierney is one of the premier staffing and recruiting companies in the Pacific Northwest.
