At Infinity, WE ARE MORE - now, come be more with us! **Contingent Upon Contract Award** Job Summary: The Electrical Engineer will support the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate in designing, developing, testing, and integrating electrical systems and components for space technology experiments and mission systems throughout their complete lifecycle. This role applies electrical engineering principles to spacecraft power systems, communications systems, command and data handling, electronic circuits, optical and electromechanical systems, and ground support equipment supporting space missions ranging from CubeSats to ESPA-class spacecraft. The Electrical Engineer will support all phases of the cradle-to-grave mission lifecycle including concept development, design, prototyping, assembly, integration, testing, flight operations, and technology The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in electrical engineering with specific experience supporting: * Space-rated electrical system design: Design and development of spacecraft electrical systems including power generation and distribution, command and data handling, communications systems, and avionics for space technology experiments, CubeSats, SmallSats, and ESPA-class spacecraft Electronic circuit and PCB design for space applications: Development of electronic circuits, power systems, and printed circuit board designs for harsh space environments including radiation tolerance, thermal management, and reliability considerations Assembly, integration, and testing (AI&T): Hands-on experience with electrical system integration, functional testing, environmental testing, and troubleshooting of spacecraft electrical systems and experiments Interface control and systems integration: Development of electrical interfaces between spacecraft subsystems, payloads, experiments, and ground support equipment including interface control documentation and electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) Flight hardware development and testing: Full lifecycle electrical engineering support from breadboard development through flight-qualified hardware including design, fabrication, testing, and flight operations support This position requires a detail-oriented approach to space-qualified electrical design, the ability to work in Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and Special Access Program Facilities (SAPFs), and cross-functional collaboration across multiple concurrent space technology programs supporting national security missions. Key Responsibilities: Electr ical System Design & Development: * Design electrical systems, subsystems, and components for spacecraft, payloads, high-altitude balloon systems, and space technology experiments Design and develop electronic circuits, power systems, communications systems, and optical/electromechanical systems for space applications Develop spacecraft power subsystems including solar array systems, battery systems, power distribution units, and power management electronics Design command and data handling (C&DH) systems, avionics, and electronics for spacecraft bus and payload applications Develop communications systems electronics including RF systems, transceivers, antennas, and telemetry systems Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness designs, and technical specifications for space-rated systems Design printed circuit boards (PCBs) for space applications considering radiation effects, thermal management, and reliability Ensure designs meet performance, safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements including space environment considerations Systems Engineering & Analysis: * Support systems engineering tasks for electrical, mechanical, thermal, structural, and specialized disciplines for space technology and spacecraft designs Perform electrical system trade studies, design alternatives analysis, and technical assessments Conduct power budgets, link budgets, and electrical system performance analyses Develop and maintain electrical subsystem requirements, specifications, and interface control documents (ICDs) Support Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) activities for electrical system requirements definition, design, and verification Perform electrical system modeling, simulation, and analysis to evaluate design options and performance Support requirements flow-down from system level to electrical component level with complete traceability Hardware Development & Fabrication: * Lead space technology and spacecraft electrical hardware design and fabrication Develop electrical hardware from concept through flight-qualified units including breadboards, engineering models, and flight units Support procurement of electrical components, space-rated parts, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) electronics Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers for custom electrical component development Evaluate materials, components, and technologies for space application suitability, radiation tolerance, and cost-effectiveness Support re-engineering and re-design of electrical hardware following testing and evaluation Testing & Validation: * Develop electrical test processes, procedures, and plans for component-to-system level testing Design and fabricate electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) and test apparatus for spacecraft testing Plan and coordinate electrical system functional testing and environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, EMI/EMC, radiation) Conduct electrical systems-level tests to evaluate performance of spacecraft and ground systems Perform electrical system troubleshooting, anomaly investigation, and failure analysis Develop and execute electrical integration test procedures for spacecraft assembly operations Perform data reduction, analysis, and documentation of electrical test results Support electrical system verification and validation against requirements Assembly, Integration & Test Support: * Support electrical integration of spacecraft buses, payloads, and experiments within government facilities Perform electrical system installation, harnessing, and integration during spacecraft assembly Conduct electrical functional testing during assembly and integration activities Support electrical ground support equipment setup, operation, and troubleshooting Implement electrostatic discharge (ESD) control procedures during assembly and handling Support electrical system configuration management and documentation throughout AI&T Launch Integration & Flight Operations Support: Support electrical system integration and testing during launch vehicle integration Perform electrical functional testing, spacecraft checkout, and pre-launch verification activities Support day-of-launch electrical system monitoring and troubleshooting Provide electrical system expertise during Launch and Early Operations (LEOps) phase Support on-orbit electrical system performance monitoring and anomaly resolution Analyze spacecraft telemetry for electrical system health and performance assessment Interface Control & Documentation: * Develop electrical Interface Control Documents (ICDs) specifying electrical interfaces between subsystems, payloads, and ground systems Create and maintain electrical system specifications, design documentation, and technical drawings Prepare electrical system user guides, test procedures, and operational documentation Document electrical system designs to allow independent reproduction and evaluation Support design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.) with electrical system presentations and documentation Ground System Development: * Design and develop electrical systems for ground support equipment and ground stations Support Mission Operations Center (MOC) electrical infrastructure and equipment integration Develop electrical systems for hardware/software-in-the-loop testing environments Design electrical test beds, simulators, and demonstration systems Program Support & Collaboration: * Support direct technical and electrical engineering tasks to RVE Program Managers, Deputy Program Managers, Chief Engineers, and designated program leads Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineers, mechanical engineers, software engineers, and technicians Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians Attend and participate in programmatic, technical, and safety reviews at all levels Present technical briefings on electrical system designs and test results to internal and external audiences Prepare monthly status reports documenting electrical engineering activities and lessons learned Qualifications: * Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field Experience: * Journeyman:3-10 years of relevant engineering experience (level may vary based on organizational needs).
