Power Developer

Role Overview. The Director of Power Development helps lead the Company's origination and development of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on advancing activities in Montana. This role is responsible for moving projects from initial opportunity identification through early-stage development and toward notice to proceed readiness, while leading development activities in Montana, including utility engagement, permitting, landowner outreach, gas pipeline and transmission development, and expansion of project opportunities across the state. The Director combines expertise in power markets, transmission systems, land development, permitting, and stakeholder engagement with the ability to identify, evaluate, and advance high-value opportunities in competitive markets. Key Responsibilities. Project Origination & Strategy Identify and evaluate development opportunities using transmission analytics, market data, land constraints, and regulatory considerations Review and interpret transmission planning documents (e.g., IRPs, transmission expansion plans, interconnection queues, congestion studies) to validate project viability Develop and execute market entry, siting, and expansion strategies across multiple regions, with a strong emphasis on growing project opportunities and market presence in Montana. Priority initiatives include the expansion of Big Sky, Broadview, Conrad, and Sapphire. Project Development Execution Lead projects from site control through permitting, interconnection, commercial structuring, and early development execution Oversee or directly support the following development activities: Land acquisition and lease negotiations Environmental and permitting processes Interconnection applications and queue strategy Early-stage engineering and site layout optimization Gas pipeline and transmission development and permitting activities Coordinate internal and external stakeholders including consultants, legal, land agents, engineering teams, permitting authorities, and landowners Commercial & Technical Integration Support structuring of offtake strategies (PPA, tolling, merchant, or hybrid models) Collaborate with engineering teams on generation + load integration (e.g., co-located data centers, hybrid plants) Evaluate project economics including LCOE, capacity value, and transmission costs Stakeholder & Community Engagement Develop and maintain professional relationships with landowners, mineral owners, and other local stakeholders. Support negotiations and communications in a manner that advances project objectives and fosters constructive stakeholder engagement. Serve as a primary point of contact with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, regulators, landowners, authorities having jurisdiction, and permitting agencies. Lead Montana-based development relationships and external engagement, including coordination with Northwestern Energy, permitting agencies, landowners, and other key stakeholders. Support negotiations with key counterparties, including: Utilities and transmission providers Large energy users (including data center customers) Joint venture or capital partners Pipeline Management Maintain development budgets, schedules, and risk registers. Track project milestones and advance projects toward notice to proceed readiness. Provide regular updates and reporting to executive leadership.
