Position SummaryThe Technical Writer is responsible for preparing, managing, and maintaining high‑quality technical documentation that communicates complex information clearly and consistently. This role performs mechanical and substantive editing while ensuring compliance with documentation standards, templates, and regulatory requirements. The position supports documentation lifecycle management, process standardization, and collaboration with Engineering.Key ObjectivesPrepare, manage, and maintain documentation and document status to effectively communicate technical informationEnsure documentation quality, consistency, efficiency, and compliance with established standards and templatesSupport continuous improvement of documentation processes and toolsPrimary ResponsibilitiesTechnical Documentation Management & EditingStandardize and enforce formatting, style, and structural standards using the Technical Documentation Handbook and approved templatesPrepare, populate, edit, peer review and update technical documents upon requestPerform Technical editing to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and complianceMaintain metrics for document turnaround times and submissionsProvide interface with Document Control and Publishing personnelDocument Lifecycle & SystemsEnsure documents remain current, accurate, and accessibleCollaboration & ReviewWork closely with Engineering to clarify scope, content, and documentation requirementsActively participate in documentation-related meetings, process improvement initiatives, and project management activitiesProvide technical writing support with population of Statement of Work (SOW)Templates, Training & StandardizationMaintain documentation templates and implement improvements as neededTrain and retrain Engineering on proper use of OMI templates, including updates and expectationsTrain, retrain, and track new hires-particularly recent college graduates-on document navigation and compliance practicesWork ManagementWork independently, prioritize competing tasks, and meet deadlinesProvide daily or periodic status reports to management as requestedAdditional DutiesAssist with departmental projects and responsibilities as assignedQualificationsRequired Skills & KnowledgeStrong mechanical editing skillsProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPointFamiliarity with government contractsUnderstanding of quality systems and internal/external auditsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailMinimum RequirementsBachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, and 4+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent written communication skillsAdvanced proficiency with word-processing and integrated software applicationsAbility to work in a detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven environmentAbility to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance, if requiredWork Environment, Physical & Mental DemandsTypical office environment with no unusual hazardsOccasional lifting to 20 poundsProlonged periods of sitting and computer usageContinuous visual focus when reviewing documentationContinuous verbal and auditory communicationSustained mental alertness, analytical thinking, and attention to detailAbility to plan, organize, and prioritize work under deadlinesOngoing learning of alternative methods and tools (e.g., extracting tables from complex PDF drawings) to deliver quality documentationLocated on sight at Kenedy Space Center (KSC)Other ResponsibilitiesSafetySupport and promote a safety‑first cultureMaintain personal accountability for a safe and compliant work environmentQualityUphold quality as the foundation of business operationsEnsure services and documentation consistently meet customer and regulatory expectationsProcedure ComplianceRead, understand, and comply with all applicable operational, safety, quality, and environmental policies, procedures, and plans relevant to the roleWe are an Equal Employment Opportunity employer as defined by the EEOC
