Human Resources Director
About the RoleWe are hiring a Director of Human Resources to lead our HR strategy and day-to-day function. This is a high-visibility role reporting directly to firm leadership, with a seat at the table on workforce planning, culture, and growth. The ideal candidate brings deep HR expertise, sharp judgment, and a real understanding of the rhythms of a public accounting environment, including the seasonal demands of tax and audit cycles.Key ResponsibilitiesHR Strategy and LeadershipPartner with Firm leadership to develop and execute HR strategies that support internal and external growth, retention, and operational efficiency Provide guidance to Partners and Managers on workforce planning and performance management Lead initiatives related to employee engagement, culture, and retention Employee Relations and Performance ManagementServe as the primary resource for employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, investigations, and disciplinary actions Advise managers on performance concerns, documentation, and improvement plans Ensure consistent and fair application of Firm policies Talent Acquisition and OnboardingOversee recruiting strategy for all positions, including experienced hires, campus recruiting and internships Partner with department leaders to identify hiring needs and improve time-to-fill and candidate quality Ensure a structured and effective onboarding experience Compensation and BenefitsManage and evaluate the Firm’s compensation structure, including salary benchmarking and bonus programs Oversee benefits administration and vendor relationships Provide recommendations to leadership on total rewards strategyCompliance and Risk ManagementEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations Maintain and update employee handbook and HR policies Manage risk related to employee matters and advise leadership on best practices HR Operations and SystemsOversee HR processes including payroll coordination, employee records, and HRIS systems (Paychex, etc.) Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and consistency Develop and track key HR metrics (turnover, retention, hiring, etc.) Training and DevelopmentSupport leadership development initiatives for Managers and emerging leaders Identify training needs and coordinate internal or external learning opportunities Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth QualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices Demonstrated experience in employee relations and conflict resolution Experience managing HR operations in a small to mid-sized organization Preferred:Experience in public accounting, professional services, or similar environment HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) Experience working in a partner-led or privately held firm Key CompetenciesStrong interpersonal and communication skills Sound judgment and ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion Ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the Firm Strategic thinking with a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach Strong organizational and process management skills Work Environment and ExpectationsAbility to manage competing priorities, particularly during peak seasons (tax and audit) Visible and accessible presence within the office to support employees and leadership Flexibility to respond to urgent employee or Firm matters as they arise Why This Role MattersThis position plays a critical role in shaping the Firm’s culture, supporting its people, and ensuring the infrastructure is in place to sustain growth.
