CompensationCompensation: $17.83 per hourEmployment Type: Regular (Non-Exempt), Grade: NE06Position SummaryThis position assists in the teaching and care of students at the Child and Family Development Center.Major DutiesDevelop and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum.Develop and maintain a healthy, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.Assist in the supervision and assessment of practicum students, student employees, and service-learning students.Prepare, schedule, and participate in parent/teacher conferences.Gather, compile, and review portfolio samples to assess student progress within New Mexico Early Learning Guidelines.Model best teaching practices for students.Participate in Child Assistance Team meetings.Communicate with and meet parents of Center students.Refer students to external service providers as appropriate.Attend required training to maintain state certification standards.Perform related duties.Knowledge RequiredKnowledge of current early childhood education methodologies and pedagogies.Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.Knowledge of curriculum development principles.Knowledge of effective teaching strategies.Knowledge of learner assessment principles.Knowledge of college policies and procedures.SkillsSkill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.Skill in decision making and problem solving.Skill in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public.Skill in verbal and written communication.Skill in working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.Supervisory ControlsThe Lead Teacher assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.GuidelinesGuidelines include New Mexico Child Care Licensing Regulations, National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation Standard and Criteria, staff and parent handbooks, and college and program policies and procedures.Complexity / Scope of WorkThe work consists of related instructional and child-care duties. The unique needs of each student contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to participate in the teaching and care of students at the Child and Family Development Center, achieving efficient and effective provision of programming and compliance with state, federal, and accrediting standards.ContactsContacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, students, parents, volunteers, and members of the general public for information exchange, problem resolution, service provision, or motivation.Physical Demands / Work EnvironmentThe work is performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee may frequently lift light and occasionally heavy objects. It is done in classroom and outdoor settings, sometimes in cold or inclement weather, with possible exposure to contagious or infectious diseases.
