Job Overview - Tax Analyst – U.S. Tax (Indirect & Direct) - KONE AmericasAre you a detail-oriented tax professional who enjoys working with data, systems, and accounting, and is eager to grow your expertise in indirect tax, compliance, and tax technology?KONE Americas is looking for a Tax Analyst to support U.S. tax compliance, accounting, and audit activities across both Indirect Tax (Sales & Use, Property Tax) and Direct Tax (Corporate Income Tax).This is a hands-on, high-learning role where you will contribute to end-to-end tax processes—working closely with Tax Managers, Finance, IT, and external advisors to deliver accurate, timely, and well-controlled tax outcomes in a Vertex and SAP environment.Is this role for you?You may be a strong fit if you:Take ownership of your work and follow through to completionEnjoy working with numbers, systems, and detailed dataAre curious and motivated to understand the “why” behind tax and accounting processesAre comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentLike solving problems and improving how work gets doneWant to grow into broader tax responsibilities over timeCommunicate clearly and collaborate effectively across teamsWhat You Will DoIndirect Tax (Primary Focus), you will:Prepare and support filing of U.S. state and local sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictionsMaintain and validate exemption certificates, ensuring accurate and timely updates in VertexSupport sales and use tax audits, including data gathering, documentation, and audit trackingAssist in maintaining taxability logic across products, services, and transactionsAnalyze tax data from Vertex and SAP, ensuring completeness and accuracyManage the KONE Tax Mailbox, ensuring timely and accurate responses to internal inquiriesPrepare clear and concise guidance on tax-related topics for internal stakeholdersAssist in maintaining tax matrices for sales and purchases across the businessDirect Tax (Supporting Role)Support preparation of income tax filings, including federal, state, and local returnsPrepare and process tax payments, including extensions and estimated payments, while maintaining tax calendar trackingOrganize and prepare data for external advisors and internal stakeholdersAssist in responding to tax notices and inquiriesMaintain records and tracking of all income tax filings and related documentationTax Accounting & ReconciliationPrepare and support reconciliation of tax-related balance sheet accounts (sales tax payable, use tax accruals, income tax accounts, etc.)Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries and account analysisReconcile Vertex vs SAP outputs and flag discrepancies for reviewMaintain supporting schedules, workpapers, and audit-ready documentationSupport tax provision and reporting processesSystems, Controls & Process SupportWork with Vertex and SAP to extract, validate, and analyze tax dataSupport system testing, data validation, and process improvementsMaintain organized, audit-ready documentation and recordsIdentify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and controls in tax processesWhat Makes This Role UniqueExposure to both Indirect and Direct Tax in a complex, multi-state businessOpportunity to work in a technology-enabled tax environment (Vertex, SAP)Hands-on experience across tax compliance, accounting, and systems integrationHigh visibility and collaboration across Finance, Operations, and ITStrong foundation for growth into Sr. Analyst or Tax Manager rolesWhat We’re Looking For3–5 years of experience in tax, accounting, or related rolesExperience with sales and use tax compliance preferredExposure to income tax or tax accounting is a plusExperience with Vertex (or similar tax engine) and ERP systems (SAP preferred)Strong Excel skills; exposure to data tools (e.g., Alteryx) is a plusBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Tax; CPA (or pursuing) is a plusKey Capabilities For SuccessStrong attention to detail and analytical skillsSolid understanding of accounting fundamentals and reconciliationsAbility to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlinesComfortable working with large datasets and system-driven processesAbility to identify issues and clearly communicate findingsHigh level of ownership, accountability, and willingness to learnLocation & Work ModelEligible locations include Lisle, IL; Moline, IL; and Allen, TX, with a hybrid work model.Why KONEAt KONE, you’ll work in an environment that values care, collaboration, courage, and customer focus. The compensation package offered will depend on candidate’s ability to meet the requirements of the role, needs for the business strategy, and a range of factors unique to each candidate, including their skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and location.We will also consider candidates in the following areas.
