SQL Developer & DBA Platform Engineer
Job Title: SQL Developer & DBA Platform Engineer
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled SQL Developer & DBA Platform Engineer with strong hands-on experience in SQL Server development, database engineering, platform automation, and software development. The ideal candidate must be an engineer and developer first, with the ability to design, build, automate, and optimize database platforms. This role requires a strong combination of SQL development, database administration, coding, and infrastructure automation. Candidates should demonstrate practical experience building software solutions, reusable tools, automation frameworks, and database platforms rather than focusing primarily on database operations, administration, or team management.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server database solutions, including complex queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and database objects.
Build and enhance database platforms, reusable components, internal tools, and automation solutions.
Develop scripts and applications to automate database provisioning, deployment, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, and operational workflows.
Write production-quality code using languages such as Python, PowerShell, or other relevant programming languages.
Design and implement database schemas, data models, indexing strategies, and query optimization techniques.
Troubleshoot complex database performance issues and improve scalability, reliability, and availability.
Develop automated database deployment pipelines and integrate database changes into CI/CD workflows.
Implement Git-based version control, infrastructure as code, and GitOps practices for database and platform engineering.
Build automated solutions for database backups, recovery, patching, upgrades, migrations, and configuration management.
Collaborate with software engineering, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable database platforms.
Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, and automated remediation capabilities for database environments.
Implement database security, access controls, auditing, and compliance standards.
Participate in architecture and technical design discussions, with a focus on engineering solutions and hands-on implementation.
Required Qualifications:
Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database development, administration, and performance tuning.
Proven experience writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and database scripts.
Strong programming and scripting skills using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.
Demonstrated experience building software, automation tools, internal platforms, or reusable engineering solutions.
Experience with database schema design, indexing, execution plans, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
Hands-on experience automating database provisioning, deployments, maintenance, and operational processes.
Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated deployment practices.
Understanding of infrastructure automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and GitOps principles.
Experience with database migration, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems and implement scalable engineering solutions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building internal developer platforms or database automation frameworks.
Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, or similar automation tools.
Experience with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or comparable CI/CD platforms.
Knowledge of cloud database platforms such as Azure SQL, Amazon RDS, or SQL Server hosted in cloud environments.
Experience with monitoring tools, observability platforms, and automated incident remediation.
Knowledge of database security, identity and access management, and enterprise governance.
Experience working in Agile development and DevOps environments.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate is a hands-on SQL Developer and DBA Platform Engineer who combines deep SQL Server expertise with strong coding and automation capabilities. Candidates should be able to demonstrate that they have personally built software, developed automation solutions, engineered database platforms, and implemented production-ready tools. We are specifically looking for engineers who build and code—not candidates whose experience is limited to DBA operations, database migrations, maintenance scripting, or team leadership.
