Communications Internship: Access Services
Access Services is seeking a motivated Communications Intern majoring in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field to support communications and coordination around upcoming events and announcements. This internship offers hands-on experience in event communications, internal and external messaging, content creation, and real-time execution support within a mission-driven nonprofit organization.The intern will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional partners to help ensure event communications are clear, timely, engaging, and aligned with Access Services' values.Internship HoursA minimum of 10 hours/weekly is preferred; available internship hours include traditional business hours M-F. Learning OpportunitiesThe intern will gain experience in:Event-based communication planning and execution Writing and editing communications for multiple audiences (staff, leaders, external stakeholders) Branding, messaging alignment, and audience-tailored communications Collaboration with marketing, operations, and program teams Exposure to internal communications strategy and public-facing messaging within a nonprofit setting Event Communications SupportTasks/Responsibilities of a Communications Intern Assist with drafting and editing event-related communications (emails, announcements, reminders, FAQs, event-day messaging) Support consistent messaging across multiple channels (email, SharePoint, print, digital signage, website etc.) Help track communications timelines to ensure key messages are delivered on schedule Content & Asset DevelopmentCreate or update event collateral such as agendas, talking points, run-of-show documents, and post-event follow-ups Draft agency wide communications for announcements and events as directed Assist with collecting and organizing content (photos, quotes, feedback) for post-event communications General Communications SupportAssist with proofreading and quality control to ensure accuracy, tone, and accessibility Support other communications-related tasks tied to Culture & Engagement initiatives as time allows Research & Analysis SupportConduct research on communications, engagement, or related topics as identified by Culture & Engagement leadership Gather background information, best practices, examples, or benchmarking insights to support communications planning or event-related decision-making Organize findings into clear summaries, briefs, or reference documents for internal use RequirementsQualifications of a Communications Intern: Currently pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field Strong written communication skills with attention to clarity and tone Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities Comfortable working independently with guidance and feedback Interest in nonprofit work, events, and employee engagement preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And ExperienceStrong writing and editing skills Basic understanding of communications strategy and audience targeting Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Outlook, Word, Teams); SharePoint familiarity a plus Professional, reliable, and collaborative approach Familiarity with the work of Access Services is highly preferred Required Clearances, to be completed before first day of internship, including: PA Criminal Clearance Child Abuse Clearance Physical Essential Working Conditions/Physical DemandsWork in a standard office environment. Utilize desktop computer equipment daily. Able to lift or move items associated with sedentary work and light work (exert up to 20 lbs.)
