Become an expert in customer service and learn how a Fitness Center and Community Center operates!Enjoy a free Fitness Center membership during your employment!The City of Bellevue is currently seeking Fitness Center Assistants for its South Bellevue Community Center who can work independently ensuring the safe activity of participants and general upkeep of the equipment. The successful candidate for this position joins a committed team that provides exceptional customer service and a clean, well-operated fitness center for the community. Individuals should be detail oriented, respectful, positive, trustworthy, and available for shifts primarily in the late afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Full training for everything you need to know will be provided.High School, Running Start, and Community College students are encouraged to apply. Others are welcome to apply.Hours:Part-time, varied, approximately 4-16 hours per week - to include afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Applicants must be available for 1-2 weekday evening shifts and 1 weekend shift per week. Exceptions are made for those participating in a school sport. One-sport high school athletes are welcome to apply and will only be assigned one weekend shift or one weekday evening shift during their sport season.Note: 35-40 hours of paid training will be provided during July-August 2026. This is not a summer job for 2026! Shift scheduling begins late Aug/early Sept 2026 with the start of the school year and continues for a one-year commitment through early to mid-August 2027.Training for all duties and responsibilities will be provided.Oversee participants and equipment in the Fitness Center to ensure a safe environment.Conduct orientations for participants in the safe operation of cardiovascular and strength training equipment.Maintain the Fitness Center in a clean and orderly manner.Initiate friendly interaction with participants providing demonstrations and education in the use of equipment and answering general exercise questions.Assemble data and prepare reports such as attendance numbers and survey results.Administer first aid by following facility emergency procedures as outlined in the Employee Training Manual.Abide by and enforce policies and procedures mandated by the City of Bellevue and applicable to the South Bellevue Community Center facilities and programs.Conduct research on fitness topics.Maintain effective, positive interaction with all SBCC and Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue staff.Assist with set up and take down of fitness equipment in other rooms or the gym as needed for classes or programs.Supervise the gymnasium, lower lobby, studio, and locker roomsAttend scheduled staff training sessions and meetings.Other duties as they apply to the safe and effective operation of the South Bellevue Community Centers.Must be at least 16 years of age by 9-1-26.Weight training and/or exercise experience or knowledge is preferred.Ability to communicate orally, the safe and effective use of equipment and Fitness Center policies and procedures.Ability to communicate in shift reports and email.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants and staff.Supervisory experience is preferred.Must have CPR/AED Certification by September 3, 2025.Candidates must have a stable and verifiable work, volunteer, or school history record showing regular, dependable attendance.A professional, well-groomed appearance is desired.Ability to work in a noisy environment with frequent interruptions.Customer service and problem-solving skills.Self-motivation to work independently with minimal direct supervision.Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to being hired.Physical Demands:Manual dexterity to operate exercise equipment and a computer.Ability to stand for extended periods of time and reach to inspect, maintain, and operate fitness equipment.Ability to lift 50 pounds.Ability to speak and hear to exchange information.Visual acuity to observe activity and to read and produce written materialsThis is a Variable, non-exempt, non-union position.Definition of a Variable Employee:* Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire.* Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less.* NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).
