Marine Engineer
Role OverviewThis position offers the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in maritime civil and structural engineering, working across a diverse portfolio of ports, harbours, and coastal infrastructure projects. The role involves both office-based technical work and regular site-based investigations, including travel to marine facilities.You will be involved in the assessment, investigation, and reporting of structural performance and incidents affecting marine and waterfront assets, alongside contributing to engineering solutions and remedial works in collaboration with a range of stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesCarry out inspections, condition surveys, and structural assessments of maritime infrastructure including quays, jetties, dolphins, berths, breakwaters, and associated facilitiesUndertake civil and structural engineering assessments of existing marine and coastal assetsConduct forensic investigations into incidents, structural failures, and damage assessmentsAttend site to support technical investigations and evaluate maritime claims and eventsLiaise with asset owners, operators, and insurance representatives to support remedial works, including contract administration and supervisionPrepare technical reports, design reviews, scopes of work, tender documentation, and contract documentsSupport project delivery and contribute to the development of client relationships across the maritime and coastal engineering sectorAssist in promoting engineering capabilities within international markets, particularly across the AmericasAdditional Skills & Experience (Desirable)Spanish language capability, particularly for work across the Americas, including Central and South America and Spanish-speaking jurisdictionsProject management experience within civil or maritime engineering environmentsAbout the Role EnvironmentYou will be part of a specialist maritime civil engineering team, supported through structured mentoring and professional development. The role involves a mix of technical analysis, field investigations, project leadership, and client engagement. You will be expected to communicate complex engineering matters clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Candidate ProfileWe are looking for someone who:Is a US citizen or otherwise able to access US port facilities without restrictionHolds a degree in Civil, Structural, or Maritime EngineeringIs a Registered Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer, or working towards chartership/PE statusHas experience in ports, harbours, coastal, waterfront, or maritime infrastructureDemonstrates strong engineering judgement and practical problem-solving abilityHas experience in condition surveys, structural assessments, and field-based investigationsIs confident preparing technical reports, specifications, and contract documentationCommunicates effectively in both written and verbal formats
