Job Description:
Mark Thomas is hiring an experienced Transportation Design Manager to the team! The role of the Design Manager is to lead and manage the design solutions and execution of deliverables on a wide variety of projects, particularly the most complex projects. Further, the Design Manager has developed an outstanding internal reputation as a “go to” person for valuable input and in demand as a design project leader. Successful candidates can demonstrate broad and advanced knowledge of technical best practices, internal/external quality control measures, standard details & specifications for the successful completion of one or more projects. The Design Manager has also established an extensive external reputation for technical knowledge, depth and experience within the A/E/C industry and marketplace.
The supervisory responsibilities can include the training, development and mentoring of direct reports and assigned staff for responsible projects. This individual will need to demonstrate adequate skills for effective communications with both upper and lower levels of staff, clients and sub-consultants in the performance of duties. The Design Manager has the awareness and responsibility for achieving objectives regarding project scopes, budgets and schedules as well.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the overall design review and delivery of quality PS&E’s (plans, specifications and estimates)
Completes the design components of larger and/or more complex projects in accordance with engineering agreements/scopes, standards of the Company and general best practices
Leads the Company in developing quality processes for effective & efficient technical/design delivery on projects
Frequently reviews standard details and quality control measures and upgrade as necessary
Leads the technical development and approach for winning proposals
Extends externally to keep up with best practices and builds an external reputation for technical/design capability & credibility
Delegates and directs technical/design tasks to technical engineering staff
Contributes to the training and mentoring of staff for efficient project execution & quality.
Contributes to and advises on the design solutions for project proposals & client presentations
QUALIFICATIONS
Meets/exceeds competencies, work products and responsibilities of a Senior Lead Technical Engineer
BS degree in Civil Engineering,
A Masters’ Degree in specific & relevant areas of engineering is highly preferred
20+ years’ progressively responsible relevant experience
California Professional Engineer (PE) license required; or PE in another state with the ability to obtain CA Licensure within one-year, other relevant certifications a plus
Proficient in MS PowerPoint and other software packages
Knowledge of overall project deliverables (PSR, PAED, PS&E)
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of technical best practices, quality standards and details
Strong knowledge of construction methods and techniques
Proven ability to direct and delegate work assignments
Adequate to Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities
