Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Mainframe System Analyst to join our team remotely. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and maintaining mainframe systems that support critical business operations. Responsibilities Analyze existing mainframe systems and identify opportunities for optimization, scalability, and security enhancements. Design and implement system solutions aligned with business requirements, utilizing solution architecture principles. Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration of mainframe operations within broader enterprise systems. Develop and maintain system documentation, including system design specifications, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Conduct system testing, debugging, and performance tuning to ensure high availability and reliability of mainframe applications. Manage system security measures such as system hardening, vulnerability assessments, threat intelligence integration, and firewall configurations. Support continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for mainframe environments using tools like Jenkins or similar platforms. Monitor system performance metrics such as load balancing, resource utilization, and network traffic; implement improvements as needed. Ensure compliance with IT security standards including cloud security protocols, VPN configurations, GPO policies, and disaster recovery plans. Participate in Agile development cycles (SDLC) to deliver high-quality solutions efficiently while adhering to best practices in DevOps and systems engineering. Skills Extensive knowledge of mainframe operating systems such as z/OS or similar environments. Strong understanding of service-oriented architecture (SOA), microservices, RESTful APIs, and web services integration. Proficiency in programming languages including Java, C#, Python, C++, Shell Scripting, and SQL variants like T-SQL or PL/SQL. Experience with database management systems such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, NoSQL databases like Cassandra or MongoDB. Familiarity with virtualization technologies including VMware ESXi and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure for hybrid infrastructure management. Expertise in network protocols (DNS, DHCP), computer networking concepts (VPNs, firewalls), and system administration across Windows and Linux platforms. Knowledge of DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins or Git; container orchestration with Kubernetes; system automation with scripting languages. Understanding of cybersecurity principles including vulnerability management, threat intelligence analysis, system hardening techniques, and compliance standards. Experience working within Agile methodologies to deliver iterative improvements efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality.
