About the job Software Engineer - Full Stack (Marketplace Systems) Software Engineer - Full Stack (Marketplace Systems)Location: New York (On-site)Compensation: $170,000 - $210,000 USD + equityAbout the RoleWe are hiring a Full Stack Engineer to rebuild and stabilize the core customer journey of a large-scale marketplace product, spanning:Search Listing Details Booking Post-booking experienceToday, key business logic (pricing, inventory, availability) is fragmented across frontend and backend systems. This role is critical in consolidating these into a clean backend domain model with well-defined API contracts, enabling teams to ship safely and scale faster.This is a high-ownership engineering role with Staff-level scope, working closely with engineering leadership and influencing multiple product teams.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn full-stack delivery across core marketplace flows (search, detail pages, booking, accounts)Design and implement end-to-end features: UI, APIs, data models, instrumentation, and rollout strategyConsolidate and refactor pricing and inventory logic into a unified backend domainDefine and enforce API contracts (filtering, pagination, versioning, performance constraints)Improve system reliability, observability, and operational readiness (dashboards, alerts, tracing, runbooks)Collaborate with Product and Design to translate complex system logic into clear user experiencesContribute to frontend architecture patterns in a modern React/Next.js codebaseMentor engineers and participate in code reviews and technical decision-makingRequirements4+ years of experience building production web or full-stack applicationsStrong ability to work across frontend and backend systemsExperience with API design and database systems (schema design, query optimization)Proven ability to deliver end-to-end features (UI API data deployment monitoring)Comfortable working in complex, distributed codebasesStrong product and engineering ownership mindsetNice to HaveFrontendReact, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind, component libraries (e.g., shadcn/ui)BackendRuby on Rails, Node.jsData & InfraPostgreSQL, MongoDBAWS, DatadogTesting & QualityPlaywright, RSpecIdeal ProfileWe are looking for engineers who can operate as product-minded full-stack owners, not just feature implementers.Strong candidates typically:Thrive in ambiguous system-level problemsHave experience untangling complex backend/frontend couplingCare deeply about performance, reliability, and maintainabilityCan drive technical direction across teamsBenefitsEquity participation with long-term upsideHigh autonomy and ownership from day oneOpportunity to shape core marketplace infrastructureFast-moving, product-driven engineering culture
