Medical Director ($5,000 Sign-on Bonus)

The Medical Director is responsible for the clinical direction of healthcare services within a correctional facility, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care for patients. The Director is also responsible for recommending strategies for optimal coordination of multidisciplinary health care at the facility level establishing clinical practice policy and procedures, quality assurance and improvement processes. In addition, the Director will provide clinical supervision and direction to Clinical Professionals. This position will report directly to the SVP of Clinical Operations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provides comprehensive medical care within a correction facility, including infirmary visits, clinical rounds, and examining patients. Collaboratively develops, directs, and supervises the implementation of ongoing clinical quality improvement efforts that align with FCH’s healthcare standards and policies. Coordinates health care for all clinical disciplines provided to the patients at the facility. Ensures proper documentation and appropriate care as well as provide emergency treatment on-site and respond appropriately in urgent or emergency situations. Serves as a liaison and consults with medical providers, and reviews and approves treatment protocols, clinical policies and procedures. Provides direct and indirect basic medical care to meet the needs of the patients. Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations. Supervises staff, evaluates employee performance, and makes hiring recommendations. Collaborates with the Health Services Administrator (HSA) and Director of Nursing (DON). Independently resolves complex medical issues and provides leadership and supervision to all clinical staff and various providers. Maintains open communication with facility administration, security, medical, and support staff to facilitate operation of healthcare services and resolution of issues that arise. May be required to arrange and/or participate in a system of 24-hour emergency prevention services. Performs other duties as assigned to support FCH’s goals, objectives and values. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Knowledge of treatment approaches, evidence-based practices, and assessment standards. Knowledge and expertise in public health, and the diagnosis and treatment of individuals. Proven leadership ability to direct effective healthcare services and to motivate and develop staff towards excellence in their work. Strong attention to detail, follow-up and timely completion of assigned tasks. Strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrates outstanding judgment, sensitivity and high discretion. Ability to balance competing demands and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with leadership, staff, patients, the public and external partners. Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations effectively and calmly. Possess strong judgment, discretion, high level of confidentiality, flexibility, and integrity. Minimum Education and/Or Experience Qualifications Board certified physician within the State of Georgia Experience in primary care with administrative experience in corrections and/or managed health care delivery Required Certifications and Licenses Must have and maintain current licensure within the State of Georgia Must have and maintain CME requirements for continued medical practice within the State of Georgia Must have and maintain a current DEA registration Must have or attain a BLS Certification prior to the first day of employment Special Requirements This position will be subject to a background check. Physical Requirements The position requires the ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds with prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting at a desk, viewing a computer and reading a variety of materials. Must be able to seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with your hand or hands. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks, such as typing for extended periods of time.
