Senior Architect / Project Lead (Residential Design-Build)

Bryhn Design/Build is looking for a licensed NJ Architect to lead our residential design department. This role is designed for a practitioner who excels at the technical and creative aspects of architecture but prefers to operate within a structured, well-funded production environment rather than managing the overhead of an independent firm.We offer a direct path from concept to completion. By integrating design with our in-house construction team, we eliminate the traditional friction between the drawing board and the field, allowing you to focus entirely on project integrity and architectural excellence.Core ResponsibilitiesArchitectural Leadership: Lead custom residential projects—primarily high-end additions and renovations—from initial zoning analysis through final inspection.Documentation & Permitting: Produce and oversee comprehensive, buildable construction sets. You will hold primary responsibility for the accuracy of all documentation and local code compliance.Field Collaboration: Work as a peer to our production team. You will be expected to be on-site regularly to ensure design intent is realized and to solve technical challenges as they arise.Client Management: Act as the technical lead in client meetings, providing a steady, professional presence throughout the design and build phases.QualificationsLicensure: Active NJ Architect License (required).Focus: Significant experience in the custom residential sector. You should have a deep understanding of wood-frame construction and the nuances of NJ-specific building codes and permit processes.Execution: A preference for "bulletproof" documentation. We value clarity over volume.Integration: An interest in the design-build model. You should enjoy the practicalities of construction and value the input of the trades.The EnvironmentThis is a full-time, in-person position based out of our Flemington, NJ office. We provide a professional, focused atmosphere with a consistent project pipeline.Salary: $115,000 – $135,000+ (based on experience).Insurance: Professional Liability (E&O) coverage provided.Benefits: Health insurance, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off (Vacation/Personal/Holidays).
