Teacher - Art Therapy

Please make sure that you are reading the job description in its entirety to align your documents and relevant information with the requirements.POSITION SUMMARY:Instructs elementary, middle, or high school students' Art therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve Clayton County Public Schools students' physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Utilizes current strategies and theories to plan and implement therapeutic lessons and techniques. This position reports to the Principal.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides Art therapeutic classes to students with varying levels (moderate, severe and profound) of cognitive, intellectual, and living skills disabilities according to achievement level of student, as specified in Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).Participates in following the program's data collection system. Observes, evaluates and prepares reports on progress of students. Assists in de-escalation of student crisis behavior.Coordinates instructional activities with other professionals, including teachers, speech therapist, physical therapist, mobility specialist and other professionals.Conducts parent/teacher conferences to review student's progress, performance, and behavior problems; works with parents/guardians to develop and provide an appropriate special education program to eligible students with disabilities. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's, Master's, Specialist, and/or Doctorate degree in Education, with an emphasis on Art Education or equivalent field required and related to grade level and content area.One (1) year teaching experience preferred.Makes recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department/school.Certification by the State of Georgia in Education T4 - T7 and content area specialization as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.Requires regular, frequent communication with internal and external school administrative personnel.Excellent classroom management required. May be designated as a lead teacher or trainer.Applies, recommends and implements technology to improve the effectiveness of school operations.Normal classroom/school setting.Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (71⁄2) hours per day.Trained for restraints and de-escalation.May require frequent travel to different school sites.Moderate duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less. Heavy lifting or carrying; one-hundred (100) lbs. occasionally.
