Painter/Blaster

Summary/ObjectiveThe Painter/Blaster is responsible for preparing and coating various surfaces to ensure the highest quality and durability. This role involves the application of protective coatings and the operation of blasting equipment to remove rust, scale, and contaminants.Duties/ResponsibilitiesSandblast and Paint raw steel platforms and various products and equipment.Operate sandblasting equipment to remove paint, rust, dirt, or other debris from surfacesPrepare surfaces by cleaning and masking areas that are not to be blastedInspect surfaces to ensure they are properly prepared for coating or repairFollow safety procedures and wear appropriate protective equipmentMaintain and clean sandblasting equipmentCollaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and effectivelyMove platforms and various products using an overhead crane or forklift.Perform Sandblasting and Wet Painting tasks in a safe and timely manner.On occasion be required to perform general labor and cleaning tasks as directed by your supervisor or lead person.Keep up with routine maintenance procedures and cleaning equipment.Document inspections and paint usage in proper records.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Skills/AbilitiesMinimum of 2 years’ experience of wet painting, sandblasting and surface preparation techniques in an industrial or construction setting.Knowledge of various surface preparation techniques and coating applications.Familiarity with different types of coatings, paints, and primers.Ability to operate and maintain blasting equipment.Knowledge of basic math for measuring and calculating material quantitiesExperience in remodeling, fixture installation, drywall, concrete finishing, stucco, or other related fields is a plusStrong attention to detail and ability to maintain high-quality standardsExcellent hand-eye coordination and physical dexterityAbility to work independently as well as part of a teamProficient with use of Airless and Conventional paint spaying systems with very minimal to no defects.Knowledge of wet painting and proper paint mixing technique (ex: two-part Epoxy primer and Polyurethane paint).Proficient with use of Steel Grit Blasting equipment and knowledge of basic maintenance.Ability to maintain a clean work area by picking up trash and sweeping the floor and disposing of paints and solvents in appropriate location. Throughout and at the end of the shift.Ability to perform and recognize a Commercial Grade Blast cleaning on steel.Ability to recognize and properly repair defects in paint finish (ex: runs, holidays and orange peel).Ability to perform basic troubleshooting functions on Airless and Conventional paint spaying equipment.Ability to follow directions, company operating procedure, safety rules and ISO requirements.Education And ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Ability to perform basic math functions.Certification in painting or blasting is a plus.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk on concrete floor continuously for a minimum of 8 hours per day.Ability to lift metal objects of up to 100 pounds frequently for a minimum of 8 hours per day.Ability to pass a breathing test and full-face respirator fitment test.Ability to work in extreme heat ranging from 110-111 degrees at times.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
