Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Material Handler with expertise in handling steel products. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely operating forklifts to transport steel materials within the facility, ensuring efficient material flow, and maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Forklift Operation: Safely operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts to move steel products, including coils, sheets, and structural components, to designated areas within the warehouse or production floor.
Steel Handling: Load and unload steel materials from trucks and containers, ensuring proper stacking and storage to prevent damage.
Inventory Management: Assist with inventory control by accurately recording and tracking steel materials using barcode scanners or manual logs.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe operating procedures to minimize risks.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on forklifts, reporting any issues promptly to supervisors.
Collaboration: Work closely with team members, supervisors, and production staff to ensure the efficient flow of materials throughout the facility.
Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized work environment by regularly cleaning work areas, forklifts, and surrounding spaces.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 1-year operating forklifts, preferably in environments handling steel products.
Certification: Valid forklift operator certification required.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks, such as bending, lifting, and standing and operating forklifts for extended periods.
Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of safety procedures, especially in environments where heavy machinery and steel products are handled.
Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions precisely and maintain an organized work environment to ensure quality control.
Communication Skills: Basic communication skills to work effectively with team members and supervisors.
Preferred Skills
Industry Experience: Experience working in a steel manufacturing or warehouse environment.
Equipment Familiarity: Familiarity with operating heavy-duty forklifts and other material handling equipment.
Language Skills: Bilingual abilities (e.g., English and Spanish) are a plus.
Working Conditions
Environment: The position is based in a manufacturing facility, where exposure to industrial machinery, temperatures, and steel handling is common.
Schedule: The job requires working overtime when necessary.
PPE Requirements: Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
