Heavy Equipment Operator – Civil Construction - Wilmington, NCWe are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to support utility and earthwork operations on heavy civil construction projects. This role is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy equipment used for grading, excavation, pipe installation, and site development while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to project specifications.ResponsibilitiesOperate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, compactors, and other machinery used in utility and earthmoving operationsPerform grading, trenching, pipe placement, compaction, and material handling activitiesOperate GPS machine control systems for grading and excavation workRead and interpret construction plans, specifications, and grade stakesEnsure all work is completed safely and in compliance with OSHA and company safety standardsConduct routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenanceMaintain accurate daily equipment and maintenance logsIdentify equipment issues and coordinate repairs with maintenance personnelMonitor site conditions including compaction, moisture content, and fill placement requirementsMaintain clean and properly functioning equipmentCollaborate effectively with supervisors, crew members, and project teamsIdentify and report potential jobsite hazardsRequirementsHigh school diploma or GED requiredValid driver’s license requiredMinimum 4 years of heavy equipment operating experienceMinimum 4 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience preferredExperience with utility installation and earthmoving operationsAbility to read construction drawings, specifications, and grading plansFamiliarity with GPS machine control systemsStrong understanding of safe equipment operation and jobsite safety practicesAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
