Director of Teaching and Learning

New England Jewish Academy, an ECC-12th grade school in West Hartford, CT is looking for a full time Director of Teaching and Learning, a key position that answers directly to the Head of School. We are a close-knit group of educators in a small school who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of our students. We are looking for someone who is patient, caring, and has a love for education. The Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for maintaining academic standards, ECC-12. The Director models and acts in alignment with NEJA’s mission, vision and core values.  The ideal candidate is a team player with strong interpersonal skills, who is committed to helping build a strong school that empowers all students with the academic, character, and life skills they need to succeed, and partners with teachers to support teaching and learning.  We seek a Director who is committed to work with determination, integrity and purpose. All responsibilities will be carried out in coordination with and under the supervision of the Head of School.Responsibilities: The Director of Teaching and Learning will:o   Coordinate and lead all academic improvement effortso   Review, revise and oversee execution of the curriculum in General Studieso   Support differentiation in all classeso   Plan and deliver schoolwide professional development activitieso   Coordinate student placements o   Compile and submit required state and federal reportingo   Arrange mentoring for new teachers, as requiredo   Supervise and evaluate teacherso   Oversee learning center and participate in all IEP meetingso   Oversee exam schedules, including AP exams, and create midterm and final scheduleso   Facilitate and oversee execution of school learning-related policieso   Participate in hiring new staffo   Review report cards each quartero   Review exams and teacher materialso   Participate in administrative meetingso   Participate in grade meetingso   Participate in new student recruiting process, as neededo   Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of SchoolQualifications: The successful candidate will have: A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.Knowledge of current and best practices in the assigned areas, including curriculum, instruction and assessment.A broad background in education. Ability to coach and lead professional development.Ability to utilize, analyze and interpret data for decision making.Communicates effectively, proactively, and respectfully with all stakeholders.Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty to move the school forward.Previous supervisory and/or administrative experience.Ability to represent the school’s mission and core values  Integrity, accountability, sincerity, patience, flexibility and humility.Exceptional writing, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.Graduate degree in a related field.  Competitive salary plus benefits, commensurate with experience.New England Jewish Academy is a forward-thinking and nurturing school.
