About This Role The Chief Development Officer is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and will drive strategy across fundraising, marketing, and communications. The role includes leading a major capacity campaign, managing a portfolio of 60‑75 major donors, guiding storytelling, and building a high‑performing development, marketing, and communications team. Scope & Impact Lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy spanning major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundations, events, and planned giving. Personally manage and grow a portfolio of 60‑75 major donors, cultivating gifts of $10K+. Partner with executive leadership and board members to advance a multi‑year campaign and secure transformational gifts. Oversee and elevate marketing and communications efforts to strengthen brand awareness and donor engagement. Guide storytelling across platforms—campaign messaging, digital content, annual reports, and community engagement. Build, mentor, and lead a high‑performing team across development, marketing, and communications (5‑6 FTEs). Use data, forecasting, and donor insights to inform strategy and drive revenue growth. Represent BBBSBA externally, building partnerships across the philanthropic and corporate community. Strengthen internal systems and operations, including CRM strategy, donor stewardship, and reporting. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of progressive fundraising experience, including major gifts and campaign leadership. Proven success leading high‑performing teams and achieving multi‑million‑dollar fundraising goals. Strong track record cultivating and closing major gifts ($10K+), corporate partnerships, and foundation support. Experience overseeing or partnering closely with marketing and communications functions. Exceptional communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with the Bay Area philanthropic landscape. Experience using CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and leveraging data to drive strategy. Preferred Qualifications Experience leading or supporting a capital or capacity campaign. Background in planned giving, digital fundraising, or brand strategy. CFRE certification or similar credential. Experience in youth development, mentoring, or mission‑driven nonprofit organizations.
