Job Description Leppert Nutmeg in Bloomfield, CT is hiring a skilled Non-CNC Manual Machinist to support the repair and refurbishment of industrial electric motors, generators, and related components. This position is ideal for a machinist with strong manual lathe experience who takes pride in precision work, especially in repair and rebuild applications.What You'll DoOperate manual machining equipment including engine lathes, horizontal lathes, knee mills, drill presses, grinders, and sawsPerform turning, boring, threading, drilling, tapping, and milling operationsRestore components to OEM specifications (sleeving IDs, skim cutting shaft ODs, re-centering, shaft repair, and keyway milling)Machine new shafts and components from samples using materials such as 1045, 4140, 4340, A36 steel, bearing bronze, and 6061 aluminumSupport motor and generator repair, including machining, balancing, and component prepPerform tool-post grinding, broaching, and commutator undercuttingComplete basic metallizing (metal spraying) and mid-level welding, brazing, and solderingUse overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment safelyHold tight tolerances (.0001") using micrometers and precision measuring toolsMeasure TIR and indicate parts accurately in a 4-jaw chuckRead blueprints and follow job specificationsMaintain documentation, safety standards, and a clean work environmentExperience You Bring7+ years of manual machining on horizontal engine lathes, including 4-jaw chuck work3+ years operating traditional knee millsExperience with large manual lathes (10"–40" swing, 60"–120" between centers)Strong background in repair machining and rebuilding components to original/OEM specsWhat We're Looking For3+ years as a manual machinist (non-CNC), ideally in industrial repair or motor shopsAssociate degree in Machine Tool Technology (preferred) or equivalent experienceStrong knowledge of machining practices and metal behaviorSkilled with micrometers, calipers, and dial indicatorsWelding, brazing, and soldering experience (intermediate level)Mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and dependableAble to work independently and as part of a teamWilling to work overtime when neededPhysical RequirementsStand, bend, and move throughout the shiftLift up to 50 lbs regularlyStrong visual acuity for precision measurementsWhat We OfferCompetitive payPaid time off401(k) with company matchMedical, dental, and vision insuranceOngoing training and advancement opportunities
