Group Leader, Camp Star
Summary: Under the direction of the Camp Director or designate this position is responsible for direct care and supervision of campers. This position focuses on improving the quality of life of our camp participants by providing recreational activities in a camp setting, providing support and mentoring for all campers through a person-focused approach and implementing the daily routines of camp. Additionally, the Group Leader is responsible for the supervision and direction of Senior and Junior CounselorsQualifications: Possess a bachelor’s degree in education, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or children a plus. Ability to facilitate all assigned camp activities and support campers in all daily needs and activities. 1-year minimum classroom experience.Major Position ResponsibilitiesWorking every day of the camp season, 8:45a to 3:15pmAttending and providing input at all required staff meetingsRemaining with assigned group at all times including at special events and at the poolUtilizing Crisis Management Techniques when neededDelegating responsibilities to Junior and Senior CounselorsMaintaining daily schedulePlanning and implementing activities as well as gathering necessary supplies during periods of free timeCommunicating with parents daily via notebook and phone calls when appropriateCompleting staff and camper evaluations prior to the last day of campIndividualizing attention and support based on campers’ individual needs.Swimming each day of campSubmitting weekly activity evaluations each Monday for the prior week’s activitiesSubmitting one newsletter article regarding the assigned group to the camp director on or before the Monday of the fifth week of campCounting campers during routine buddy checks during swim timeReporting any incidents/accidents, disturbances or unusual situations to the camp director and completing incident/accident report on “Unusual Incident/Accident” form in camp binderSupport and monitoring of campers in daily living skills/needs including personal hygiene needs i.e., toileting, bathing etc.Being in designated area each morning and afternoon to assist campers as needed with arrivals and dismissals.Reporting to assigned area during emergency situations/drills.Ensuring that all equipment and supplies are properly cared for and are returned to the appropriate storage area and sanitized.Ensuring that emergency information, group notebook and a fully stocked first-aid pack always accompany the group.Conducting daily health inspections of campers each dayAdministering medication to campersEnsuring all COVID-19 protocols are followed and social distancing is adhered to.Seeking advisement of the camp director/assistant director when necessaryPerforming other duties assigned by the camp director/assistant director.Required Training (must pass for employment)Adult and Child CPR Megan’s LawBasic First Aid Danielle’s LawCOVID – 19 HIPPAPreventing Abuse and Neglect Diversity/Agency OrientationCrisis Management Diastat/EpiPenInfectious Disease ControlCamp OrientationBehavior SupportMedication AdministrationUnder the direction of the Camp Director, provide individual or small group instruction within the academic program.Serve as a role model for all campers in interpersonal interactions and in providing support in camp-related activities.ADA RequirementsThis position will require significant physical activity including activities such as swimming, running, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, playing sports, and may require carrying materials or supplies over a distance to prepare for activities.The incumbent must be able to maneuver persons in wheelchairs and persons who use other ambulation devices, and at times will be required to physically lift, transfer or otherwise support individuals with disabilities.Must cooperate fully in any internal or external investigation with the Agency’s licensing agents including the Department of Human Services, the Division of Children & Families staff, or any other duly authorized external person regarding the care and service delivery to individuals served.The agency may assign employees to any duties and to any work site it deems necessary in its sole discretion
