This position is responsible for capturing high-quality video and audio in the field and contributing to post-production through editing as needed to support KDKA’s broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller with solid news judgment, the ability to perform under deadline pressure, and a clear understanding of the responsibility that comes with representing a CBS owned-and-operated station in the field.Core Responsibilities:-Newsgathering & Visual StorytellingShoot high-quality video and natural sound for daily newscasts, breaking news, and special coverageWork closely with reporters, producers, and assignment desk editors to support story needsCapture compelling visuals that enhance context, clarity, and impactExercise sound editorial judgment while gathering accurate and ethical coverageRespond quickly and professionally to breaking news, severe weather, and major community events throughout Western PennsylvaniaField Operations (Including Editing)Operate broadcast camera, audio, lighting, and live transmission equipmentSet up and execute live shots proficiently and safelyEdit news content as assigned, including VO/SOTs, packages, and other elements for broadcast, streaming, and digital platformsDemonstrate knowledge of pacing, shot selection, sequencing, and basic storytelling structurePerform basic color correction, audio balancing, and quality control to meet KDKA standardsMaintain awareness of safety, surroundings, and changing newsroom prioritiesFollow KDKA and CBS News & Stations guidelines for ethical journalism and field safetyNewsroom CollaborationCommunicate clearly and consistently with reporters, producers, editors, and news managersSupport extended and wall-to-wall coverage during major breaking news eventsParticipate in enterprise reporting and special projects as assignedRepresent KDKA professionally in the field and within the communityRequired QualificationsMinimum 2–5 years of television news photography experience (level dependent)Working knowledge of non-linear video editing systems (Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid, or similar)Strong shooting skills with an eye for composition and natural soundSolid knowledge of audio capture and basic lighting techniquesAbility to work calmly and proficiently under tight deadlinesStrong communication and teamwork skillsWillingness to work flexible shifts including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and breaking newsPreferred ExperienceExperience in a large-market or CBS O&O newsroomFamiliarity with live news, severe weather, and breaking news workflowsKnowledge of newsroom media management systemsDrone or specialty camera experience (where applicable and properly licensed)CBS News and Stations, brings together the power of CBS News, 28 owned television stations in 17 major U.S. markets, the CBS News Streaming Network, CBS News Streaming local platforms, local websites and cbsnews.com, under one umbrella.
